Nobody needs to know. There's nothing wrong with you :) x

Everyone's scared of something~ mine's spiders and storms. Eventhough I'm not scared of the dark, I sometimes like to sleep with little battery powered fairy lights around my bed, and because they're battery operated, there's no fire risk :) They can be bought quite cheaply on sites like amazon :) I know one of my best friends always slept with a night light on ^_^

Don't feel bad because you are afraid of the dark, I was afraid of the dark until I was 30. As the other replies have suggested a nightlight is very useful as it provides just enough light to break the darkness. If there has been other issues in your life which have affected you try to see a professional about these, as your fear of the dark could stem from this and may lessen or eventually leave as these issues are dealt with. That is what helped me overcome the fear I had for over 25 years.

HelpMoi,
Fear of the Dark is usually fear of the unknown. Fear of what might be there. Sometimes it helps to understand your fears better. I camp with kids that are a little younger than you. I always have some light sticks in my pack in case someone needs a night light. So your fear is not that unusual.
The way we get over fears is a process called desensitization. The process is you face your fear a little at a time. Start with a room you know well. Stay in the dark, or almost dark for a few minutes. Each time try a little longer. When you can be comfortable with that, try a room you are less familiar with.

You could either buy a night light (One of those that you plug into a mains power supply) or the immediate option would be to leave the bedroom door open a little bit at night to allow light into your bedroom from the hallway or landing.
You could even leave your tv on at mute or a very low volume, some people find that comforting too.
This isn't as uncommon as you think, and its certainly not wrong. I know of a few people younger and older than you (My brother for one he's 20 years old) that are afraid of darkness, its nothing you need to feel ashamed about hun. (Glad my brother isn't a member of this site he'd kill me for telling you that haha). Good luck! :)

I am a lot older than you, and I don't sleep in the dark. I leave my bedroom door open and the loo light on, it gives me enough light to be comfortable. I do the same when I go away and stay in hotels etc, I leave the door to the bathroom open just enough for there to be a little bit of light. If I can't do that I leave the curtains open a little ....
Buy a little night light that plugs directly into a socket, or put a low wattage globe/bulb into a lamp and leave that on overnight.
