reader, anonymous, writes (15 February 2011): hii...been there, done that!!! it's pretty suckyy, but i can promise you that there IS a way of getting around it. as hard as it may be, you're just going to have to put on your big-girl panties (sorry, i couldn't resist...hahaa) and strike up a conversation with him. find something that you both like--be it music, sports, knitting, whatever--and start talking about that. no matter how shy they are, people usually tend to kind of "come alive" when they're talking about something that they have a lot of passion for.i agree with what has been said before--don't try to rush jumping into a relationship. develop a friendship with this guy, and just see where things go from there. if the two of you DO end up dating, i would suggest making the first few dates (or at least the first one) double or group dates. it's not as private that way, but it does usually cut down on the awkward silences and things like that.
