A female United Kingdom age 30-35, *ittyCat123987 writes:

My boyfriend of eight months has asked me to come to his little brother's birthday meal at a restraunt and I'm in two minds..

I've met his older sister and Dad before who were both nice (although his Dad was a little.. unwelcoming but my bf had warned me of that before hand) but now I'll be meeting his mum, dad, two brothers and sister and I'm really worried about it.

I have really bad social anxiety and whenever I have too many people's (too many = 4+) attention on me, I go bright red and sometimes I even feel light headed and as if I'm going to faint. My bf has warned me (jokily) that his mum will probably grill me with questions and I'm so worried about all that attention being on me.

I would like to go; I'd love to meet his family. But when I go red, it's so so so embarressing and I just want the ground to swallow me up.

The meal is this evening; any advise?! I'm 16 btw. :)

Emaz help agony auntdeep breaths :) you've got to do it some time and im sure they'll be nice, they just want to learn about you im sure they wont be nasty, the younger siblings probably wont even be bothered by the fact that you're there, you've already met two so im sure they wont ask you lots of questions and stare at you...i mean they already know what you look like ;) good luck!!!

CindyCares agony aunt Everything will be fine. You are only 16, they know it and they do not expect you to be a smooth socialite with a Grace Kelly social flair. A little shyness is endearing and blushing is cute. Just be nice,be polite ,and be yourself. And if the little brother is a young child, pay him a lot of attention and a lot of compliments, his mom will like it.
