A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

okay

so me and my boyfriend had sexual intercourse on Monday. we did not use protection and he came inside me. i have been taking the pill for 6 weeks now and not missed one out or anything and i am still taking them. the only trouble is i feel really different. i seem to urinate more often. my boobs are tender, and i get so tired, however i just started a new job so that may be why the tiredness.

i know with the pill you are supposed to take it for 3 weeks and then miss a week to have your period then go back on the pill again, but i just went straight onto the next month without missing a week. and i also skipped a period.

im scared i might be pregnant, does it sound like it?

im too scared to go and get a pregnancy test and too scared to talk to someone about it as me and my partner cant afford a baby because we are just getting into our careers. the reason im scared to tell my family is that my mum and sister got pregnant at a young age and my mum died from womb cancer, so i live with my grandparents, and they think i will end up the same and will have a right go at me.

so do you think i might be pregnant, and what should i do?

thanks

x

It sounds to me as though you've been taking the pill correctly. As you haven't been taking it for very long, the symptoms you describe- aside from the urination which could be attributed to a number of factors, the least likely of which is a week's pregnancy- are common side effects of oral contraception which occur as your body becomes used to the medication. However, I would suggest that if you are too scared to get a pregnancy test- which cost upwards of a pound- you are not responsible enough to be having sex at all. The risks associated with a sexual relationship require a degree of maturity which you seem to be lacking.

x..BabyGirl..x agony auntIt varies. I think you can go to a doctors and get it done for free. I think a decent one is about between 5 and 10 pounds though.

x..BabyGirl..x agony auntYou need to get a pregnancy test. It is possible you're pregnant, you've got the symptoms and the pill isn't 100% effective, that's why it's recommended that you use a combination of the pill AND condoms.

gabosutton agony auntBE happy,

There is not such pregnancy you're afraid of!! Stop taking your pills according with prescription and having non protected sex with him. You need to give your system a break specially in you started your pills 6 week ago.

Don't worry everything its going to be alright ..

dont worry, im in the exactly same position.im 16 and my boyfriend is 17, ive been on the pill a few months now, we dont use condoms as they really do irritate me. and im sure he hasnt ever slept with anyone else. your boobs being tender and you being tired is probably down to the side affects of your pill. you can take two packs in a row,i recently did that so i wouldnt come on whilst on holiday. if you want to talk further just say

lilly123 agony auntyou should go to your doctors they will do a test for you and then can talk with you about all your worries and what you are going to do about the situation, don't be scared to because you need to know either way don't you and thats what doctors are there for.
