I've had months between my periods, sometimes less than a month between them, i've also had heavy periods and ones that go for too long or too short... I was told that it was pointless to see anyone about it untill i was 17 as it can take that long for it to become normal and initially i thought my periods finally had become fine yet my period have stopped again... Do you think my problem is serious? And is there anything that could possibly be wrong with me?

While I wouldn't believe that there is anything seriously wrong with you, I do believe it is time that you spoke to your Doctor about this. Five years is long enough for your body to regulate itself a little better than it has. He/she may put you on birth control pills to regulate your time and flow, and may do a blood test or two just to see if your horomone levels are okay. While it is normal to vary a few days, or skip a month here and there, it is not normal to skip months at a time unless you are very very thin, or extremely active with a very low body fat ratio. Hope this helps.

What's your diet like? Do you have a regular eating pattern because I've heard that your diet affects it. Maybe you should see a nurse or a doctor about this and I'm sure they could tell you what's up.

First of all, if you've had your periods for 4 years already and it's not stabilized I think you can see someone, at least just to have them tell you that everything is okay so you can stop worrying.
As long as you're getting your periods, things are probably as they should be.
When I started having my periods I kept a calendar for the first 5 years where I wrote down the start and end date (I also ran statistics on it, but not everybody is that crazy). As a general, there should be 28 days in each cycle, not a whole month, but in my case, the periods would sometimes be 2-3 days late or even early sometimes.
If you want to program your body into having exact timing, the only thing I can think of is taking birth control pills, but I'm sure your physician might give you some other nifty advice.
