stina agony auntHi there Anon,

What works for some might not work for you. Just as the nuvaring was good for the anonymous poster below, I found that in the first few months of using it, I had more headaches/migraines than I typically do (I, too, suffer from migraines and also cluster headaches - it's HORRIBLE) when just taking the pill.

You should talk to your gynecologist about it and see if he/she has any recommendations. Even your neurologist might be able to help you figure out what'd work best with your system. Maybe you should make an appointment with one or both of them to see what they recommend.

Take care.

nuvaring is good, and it's effective even if you're taking daily anti-seizure meds to control the migraines (which, incidentally, are i've found really effective)

Wendyg agony auntHi there!

I get migraine too! I know how it feels and I sympathise! My doctor didnt like me on the pill as I get visual disturbances with mine and she recommend that I go on the Mini Pill..(progestogen only) Ive taken this for about 4 years now and the myth that its less effective simply isnt true provided that you take it 100% correctly. I wouldnt say that i dont get migraines still being on the pill, but its not as a direct consequence of the pill... basically i get the odd migraine from time to time but its one that i probably would have got whether i was on the pill or not. I have attached a link to a site about the mini pill and i recommend talking it over with your doctor as they can tell you all the advantages and so on... But as a migraine sufferer myself i would recommend the mini pill. http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/sex_relationships/facts/mini-pills.htm.

If you are not really wanting the pill then you can always try the Coil, I as a migraine sufferer wouldnt recommend the Injection though or implants, they say migraine sufferers are okay on them, but i for one every time i had a shot had the worst migraine ever!!! But i guess we are all different, the thing with the injection is that it lasts 3 months so once its in your system your stuffed if it dont agree with you!

So i recommend the mini pill, but the coil is also an option, so talk this over with your GP.http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/sex_relationships/facts/contraceptivecoil.htm

Take care x x
