She had a scan in April which came back clear. After her death I went to see her doctor (who is excellent) and he asked for a copy of the scan to be looked at. A consultant has looked at it and there is shadowing visible on the scan which should have been detected.I don't know what to do. The chances of her surviving had it been detected at that stage are very slim and yet I'm so angry and upset that she spent the last year of her life in so much pain and being treated like a hypocondriac. Her gp did exactly as he should sending her for the scan and the person who studied the scan should have picked it up. I just want closure and to move on but can't.

I agree with Emily Answers. You need to report this so they don;t screw up again. Talk to a lawyer. All the best.

Report it.
I'm not sure if there is a medical council in America. We have one in the UK that licences doctors and can punish them if they miss things.
I'm not sure if in America you just have to sue them. You can always give the cash to charity, but it will make the hospital wake up and make sure they don't make mistakes again.
Get advice and do something.
As long as you know that it won't bring your mother back. But if you get money and give it to a good local charity then you will know some good came of it in the end.
Good Luck!! xx
