No you were honest, she may just have decided that she did not want to be "the one" and maybe she was not sure you really wanted sex with someone who you did not really know and who had no intentions of being your partner, to me this person sounds like a good honest person who was not going to take advantage of you.
My advice is to slow down and take things easy, just make friends and if there is some girl that you fancy and she fancies you then ask her out and date first before jumping into bed, this is advice I would give to anyone having sex for the first time.

You didn't make a mistake, she did. She probably did what she did because she wasn't interested in a relationship with you. Often when someone has sex for the first time, the feelings are powerful and they want a relationship with the person. Obviously that was something she wanted to avoid. If you're relationship minded, at least you avoided sex with someone who only wanted sex, and nothing else. On the other hand, if you just wanted sex, I'm sure you'll find someone who isn't scared of a virgin and maybe even prefers it. Good luck to you.
