A female reader, anonymous, writes (16 September 2007):

I am 14 and i am 5"8 and i think i am quite big, i am size 16 clothes size but for my trousers it is mostly for the length but i have huge shoulders so i really do need a size 16 for them but i am happy with the way i am.

i alwayz say i would rather be obese than i would anorexic, i think some people in magazine just don't look right as they are too skinny.

be pleased with the way you look cos i bet you are beautiful really!! i really don't care what people think about me because i know that the people who actually care about me wouldn't care what size i am or what i look like.

A male reader, Uncle Trev United Kingdom +, writes (16 September 2007):

I know somebody who is a size six, is 5'8" tall and weighs seven stone and she thinks she is fat. Nobody else does and many are showing concern because she is no doubt very seriously underweight.

Then again one of my neighbours she is a size twenty eight at 5'5" and she is extremely happy about her size and appearance. Her name is Kate and everybody in our village knows her as "Kate Mass" and she loves it even referring to this name herself when she is in conversation.

You do not state your weight or your height for anybody here to get an idea of your actual size. Unless you feel your size is drastically affecting your ability to get around in your shoes I seriously wouldn't worry about it.

I wouldn't worry about the rubbish those magazines put out trying to tell you that you are overweight unless you can see every rib you have in the bathroom mirror.

If your friends are dismissive of you because of your size irrespective of what size you are then that rather says a lot more about them than it does you. It just shows their shallowness.

A female reader, 88jane United Kingdom +, writes (15 September 2007):

88jane agony auntoh sweetheart, please please please dont compare yourself to the people in magazines!! the people in these magazines are not a good role model for young girls and they are the reason a lot of girls have eating disorders! they are only in the magazines because they are that thin and as far as im concerned they are too thin! hardly anybody in the real world looks like these women!

people come in all shapes and sizes and you have to learn to be happy with what god gave you!

do you realise that guys like a woman with curves? there are many surveys done and the majority of men will tell you that they like a woman with a bit of meat on their bones!! they want someone they can cuddle into and can hold onto...they dont want a stick insect whose bones stick into them!!

you say that you arent as pretty as these women either! i dont actually think that these women are that pretty to be honest! real beauty is on the inside and physical appearances arent everything!! as soon as you learn to love yourself then everyone else will see what a beautiful person you are!

if you feel that you are overweight then simply make sure that you eat a balanced diet including protein, carbohydrates, fruit and veg and small amounts of fat-drink plenty of water and get regular exercise!! just ensure you lead a healthy lifestyle! dont start any stupid diets, they never work!! as long as you have a healthy lifestyle then it doesnt matter how big you are!

just remember---you are a beautiful person, the sooner you start to believe that, the sooner everyone else will see it!

if you want to chat further then feel free to email me--im happy to help!!

A female reader, amylouise United Kingdom +, writes (15 September 2007):

amylouise agony auntdo not worry. just think most girls in those magazines have been airbrushd anyway. but most importantly its not about how you look, look beyond the mirror at the beautiful girl inside and being slim isnt everythng, also remember you are not the only girl with low confidence. Im quiet skinny and have no confidence at all! dont worry your not alone. but if you really want to change your weight just do more exercise and please dont go on a mad crash diet! xx
