A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Hey :) Well theres this guy Im good friends with and I kinda like him too. We go to different schools. Anyway I have my prom at the end of this year and a few people has asked me, although its girls choice!! And im very bad at dissapointing people so I kinda let them down gently and I was discussing how to do this with my guy friend (Lets call him T).

So T was being very nice and gave me some good ideas, so during the week, I was texting him and i said something like 'You do know you would be my first choice if I didnt have all these people wanting to go right?'

And he said 'oh wow well i'd love to go with you.' Some we left it like that, nothing definite.

Anyway we both went to this party and I was hanging about with him and stuff and some of the people from my school got all jealous and started making stupid remarks, you get the idea :(

So later I was texting him apologising for their behaviour (they were drunk...) and I said something like 'I totally understand if you dont feel like going to prom now.' and he said 'Well i dont know they seem to hate me.'

Anyway I was a bit put out, but then a few weeks later I tried bringing it up but he sort of ignored the subject, although im not sure if he did that intentionally. And his friend is going to this prom with someone from my school so he wouldn't be totally alone.

I know i've totally messed this up from day one, but can you help me think of a way to resolve this? I feel so bad about it all! Thanks x

Katy. agony auntMeet up with him in person and get straight to the point and say something along the lines of;

I'm sorry about the way my friends acted the other day/week they were just drunk and it was nothing personal, but I'd like you to know that it would be really special if you were to come to the prom with me.

If he does't listen to what you have to say then he obviously isn't worth it and it's either time to take up one of the other offers or just go and have fun with your mates.

If I was you I'd be having words with my friends saying what you said was out of order as you've caused alot of disruption for me and I don't think it's right.

Anyways, I hope thats a slight bit of use for you, but this is only what I'd be to do if I was in this situation.
