I was pretty sure my promotion had something to do with sleeping with my manager

A male United Kingdom age 41-50, anonymous writes:

Hello people. I've been at my current place of employment for three years now.

I consider myself a trust-worthy, hard and efficient worker and have been working hard towards a promotion. I've always been slightly distracted by my manager. She's only a year older than me and she's beautiful.

If I'm not thinking about work then I'm thinking about her. I always get a flutter in my stomach when I talk to her, so I guess I really fancy her.

About a month ago, she invited me along to the monthly manager's meeting. The meetings are held at a hotel and the company uses the conference room for the meeting. Afterwards, everybody hits hotel bar. So, that's what happened. We had the meeting and we went to the bar.

As the night progressed, a handful of us ended up in a manager's hotel room. We all had a laugh and as it got a bit late I made my excuses to leave. As I was leaving the room, my manager followed me out. She said she was tired and that she was going to her room to sleep. I told her that I was going home. I would pass her room as I was leaving.

When she got to her room she said that she would like to discuss something with me regarding my promotion. Obviously, this was of interest and she opened the door to her room and invited me in. I took a seat and she went to the bathroom.

After a couple of minutes, she came out of the bathroom. She was naked! She walked over to me, took my hand and led me to the bed. We had the most amazing sex all night long.

The next week, I was promoted. I was pretty sure that it was something to do with sleeping with my manager. Sure enough, she told me that if we have more encounters then I will go far in the company.

So, I've been sleeping with her. Not for my career but because she seriously turns me on and she does things that no other girl I've slept with will. Now it seems that she is interested in pursuing a serious relationship with me, which is great.

She's admitted that she loves me and I love her but I'm starting to think that it wasn't such a good idea to be promoted because I slept with her.

Could it effect my job if anyone found out? I'm sure that some people would be very ticked off! Also, I'm worried that if it all went pear-shaped then it would be difficult for us to work together.

hey, i jut saw the funny side of this.

(some) women have been promoted by just lieing on their backs as well. you just secured your future, so enjoy the ride and the promotion. It may not last for too long but at least you will havs that grin on your face and a handsome bank account. Don't fret but also don't get caught!

Why not tell her that you are open to sleeping with her but you want to be promoted only on the basis of your merit? That way you can enjoy the time while keeping your conscience clean. And please dont listen to the idea of using it to sue the company. That is what women do... men generally are too dignified to stoop so low.

Use email to document her statements that are indicating you can get more promotion from sleeping with her.

Print the emails and go straight to a lawyer & your companies HR department. Sue your company for damages. Cash in.

This might sound ridiculous but seriously you are 26 years old. You have obviously slept with other women in the past and are old enough to realize she won't be the last either. So why not cash in on it. You could come out with a couple hundred grand liquid cash. If spent wisely in the current economy you could set yourself up for the rest of your life pretty nicely with properties etc...

Think about it.

bobbles32 agony auntRight, It's none of their business, but you're obviously feeling guilty about this. Most companies have policies over relationships in the office, have you checked out the rules? I don't think it's fair that your manager is bribing you. You're sexually attracted to the woman but does that excuse the misconduct on both of your parts?

Congratulations on the promotion.

Well you can't prove your promotion had nothing to do with you sleeping with her. Nobody can prove it did. This is just you and your conscience.

There's a good reason that people believe business and pleasure shouldn't mix. It becomes very complicated to have these extra power dynamics in a relationship, as well as added emotional aspects to the work environment. These things don't work.

To me it sounds like she enjoys having sexual and managerial power over you. She has basically told you to sleep with her in order to get along in the company. I think this is wrong for both of you, as well as your colleagues. But you are going to have to decide for yourself where your integrity line is, and how far you are willing to push it.

Good luck
