(I know this because I sometimes walk with my sister to her school and we always run into the popular girl.)My sister tells me all about her too. My sister has has been in love with her since the first day of sixth grade.(she is in seventh grade now.)Sometimes whenever she comes home she looks so broken. She tells me the popular girl brings her down or gets her "crew" to bring her down. The other times she comes home she is happy and full of life. She tells me the popular girl hugged her or talked to her. But now everyday she comes home sad, depressed, and broken. The only thing that makes her smile is when I ask her to describe the popular girl or when I ask her to tell me why shes in love with the popular girl. She came home crying a few days ago and told me the popular girl yelled at her telling her she hated her so much and called her a few things that should not be repeated. She has tried to move on a few times but she keeps coming back to the popular girl. My girlfriend and I are really conceerned about her. She doesn't talk, she barley eats, and she stays locked up in her room. She doesn't cut herself. I always make sure to check. She doesn't smile when she describes the populare girl anymore. She doesn't smile when I ask her why she is in love with the popular girl anymore. When I drop her off at school the popular girl is there glaring at her. What should I do?

Give it time. People change and so shall your sister's feelings. Just be there to comfort her when she cries and keep making sure that she is not harming herself because of this girl. But let her feel what she needs to feel. That is all you can do.
Only she can make herself realize how wrong the popular girl is for her.
I hope that helps.
