A female reader, JDinCali United States +, writes (2 March 2011):

JDinCali agony auntYou can't make someone love you, but you can do some verbal judo ...(come to think of it, that's a book). http://www.amazon.com/Verbal-Judo-Gentle-Art-Persuasion/dp/0688137865

Anyway,...try to get her alone; while you're both walking to go somewhere, but not around a big group of her friends. Kindly ask her(with a smile) why she hates you. It's a question that involves some explaining, not a simple "Yes" or "No" answer. ;)

"Hate" is a big word and most people will defend themselves against having it. So, after she explains then, you can fit-in how you feel about her and leave it at that. End it with "I'm here if you need me... I've always been here for you." ...let her think about that till the next day.

Gentle persistence is the key. Be sweet, non intrusive and always positive. Humor is a good way to break the ice.

Hope all goes well.
