If you are not having sex and want it to regulate your period then there may be other methods. The doctor will be up on all the latest technology, but be careful of chemicals going into your body unnecessarily.
take care

I am not a great fan of the pill myself, I find it puts weight on you, you have to keep remembering to take it and has side effects. I had a coil fitted a year ago and has never looked back, for the first three months your periods are all over the place. That will soon settle down and regulate, as you have a foriegn body inserted inside you.
Now I don't even know its there. Dusky xxx.

I did not get any adverse affects from it.Remember thought, your covered against pregnancy but nothing else.

You have to see your Doctor to get a prescription. The pill makes your body think it is "pregnant". There are different doses, some can give you a lighter, 3 day period, there is one that lets you have your period only 4 times a year. Keep track of any symptoms that you notice, because you can change and adjust which pill you are on if one doesn't agree with you. Some of the side effects can be mood swings and suppressed sex drive, a lot of people have a slight weight gain, 10 pounds or so. On the up side, it does lift the worry of getting pregnant and you can always add a few pills at the end of your cycle if you don't want to get your period this weekend, for instance. You shouldn't smoke when you are on the pill, it increases the risk of stroke. The pill doesn't protect you from STI's so always use a condom even if you are on the pill.

Hey there...
There are different types of anti conceptive pills... depending on what you want to use them for (not getting pregnant, regularizing your period, etc) then you can choose the best option for you.
This is really a matter to be consulted with your GYN. When and if you decide to start using them, you can look for information of pros and cons on that particular brand.
Good luck!
