GrimmReality agony auntWell, parents have a natural tendency to want to not see their children in dangerous professions. I think this most likely is the case. However, you wont be the first young man to go against their wishes if and when you do hop the pond.

But remember that Auto Racing is as dangerous in your neck of the woods as it is here. I take it that perhaps you want to race stock cars(NASCAR)?

It is a long process that begins at dirt tracks on Saturday nights and may take many years to even get close to cracking into the big money.

It will take alot of work, and alot of sacrifice, but if you are up to the challenge...GO FOR IT!

Probably the last successful British driver here in the states would be Nigel Mansell, and we are talking 15 years ago. And that was of course in open wheel racing(Indy). Before that it would be Graham Hill, and we know what happened to him

I wish you the best, and it would be nice to see some more excitement other than rednecks making left turns.

A female reader, Original shiraz! United Kingdom +, writes (3 June 2009):

Sit them down, handle this with maturity and respect for them, you their son its their job to protect you so this will be hard, show them how passionate you are about this and how much it means to you. They will understand that at some point they will have to take that step back for you to find your way thats a part of parenting but another part i listening and understand your child and helping them achieve their dream.

If you want something so much, then go and get it, dont go against them work with them and youll enjoy the experiance a whole lot more.If you work this the right way then they wil be on side im sure, its your dream let them know that.

They are aware that you will leave at some point, explain that america is the same as that just a bigger step, you need to do this for you its all about growing up and finding yourself, go ahead and do it the right way.

Thank you sister too, she obviously understands you, respect that and dont forget it.

I wish you all the luck in your future, find your dream and live it your way
