Hey. Just needed some advice on something. I've had protected sex a couple of times in the last few weeks but I'm now late on my period by almost a week and I've had what feels like something hammering in my head for the last few days,I still have my appetite and my breasts aren't sore...Could the signs that I have however be signs of pregnancy?

GuardianAngel agony auntHi If you have had protected sex and you have used condoms you shouldn't be able to get pregnant it is impossible but if you meant to write unprotected then you might possibly be!

These could just as easily be signs that you're a young woman whose body is still becoming an adult.

The responsible thing is to do a pregnancy test as soon as you can get reliable results and take action based on what you can trust, rather than "what if?".

If the possibility of pregnancy is scaring the hell out of you, then you probably weren't ready to have sex. "Protection" is NOT 100% reliable - young people in particular often don't use condoms correctly!

When I had protected sex for the first time at 15 I thought I was pregnant because I was 2 weeks late on my period. Turns out I wasn't, so I wouldn't be too worried. Just in case try to get a pregnancy test to clear your mind, but I'd wait for at least another week yet.

When you say "protected sex", do you mean condoms or the pill, or another form of contraception? I'm asking because other medication (like antibiotics) can affect the effectiveness of pill. You should ask yourself, are your periods usually regular, or is it unusual for you to be late? Also, if it's only in the past few weeks it would be too early to get these symptoms. Maybe it would be best to visit your doctor just to be sure.

Best of luck

superrrshawna agony auntwhat is protected sex? if you only used condoms, there is always a chance one tore or it was used incorrectly... a year or so ago i had the exact same scare where i was only using condoms and i was late. i ran to the drugstore, bought several different pregnancy tests and even called my obgyn. that's my recommendation!

don't leave things up to chance, take a couple drugstore tests, call a doctor for their opinion, and when you find out the result, do what you need to do.

after that, if you are going to keep having sex, why not try getting on the pill? that plus condoms is very effective.

good luck!
