Your friends are right! You're looking at yourself from a biased opinion, and let's face it, anyone in the right mind can't look at themselves and think "Ooh, what a flat stomach" or "what pert boobs you have" (unless this is a man talking, of course lol) without having surgery or living a life of constant dieting! It's not about facts, figures and percentages. You've got to be happy in your own body, and not comparing it to everyone elses around you. We were all made in different shapes and sizes because otherwise the world would be such a boring place honey! You're perfect as you are. However, saying that, you are by no means fat! In fact, if you dieted or got any lighter, you'd be classes as underweight. This is neither healthy or attractive! Why would a guy want to date a girl with her ribs showing, no chest, and sticks for legs? They wouldn't! The truth of the matter is, when you diet, weight does come off your chest too and I don't think a lot of women would particularly like this at all. So step back and take a look at yourself, pick out all the positive things about yourself and what you like about your personality too. Smile into the mirror every day and watch your eyes twinkle. We were all made perfect and you are most definitely not fat, so listen to your friends! :]

You are young and i was just the same at that age, looking back at photos now, i looked gorgeous and just wouldnt believe family and friends. It didnt make things any better when i met someone and he put me down. Hold you head up high and be yourself and i am sure you will be just lovely. Stop whittling and enjoy your youth, you are a beautiful person.

take care

Yos agony auntAccording to standard body mass indicators ...

For your age and weight and height you are in the lowest 20% of body-weight (meaning you are in the thinnest 20% of the population), and are 'normal' weight, but any lighter and you would be underweight.

So your friends are right.

If you honestly truly think you are fat then you should consider talking to a councillor. Your weight is fine now, but if it gets lower then you could end up underweight and unhealthy because of it.

Hi, well, I am 170 cm and used to be around your weight. I must admit that I look better with my now 58 kg. It all depends of course on your build, so maybe it would be a good idea just to double check with your doctor or dietician.

A reader, anonymous, writes (22 May 2008):

Hey... im in the same boat as u... im 50kg and 166 cm... i constantly think im fat and eat as little as possible... I spoke to someone about it once and they told me this. Theres a formula called BMI which is BodY Mass Index. It measures your weight and your height giving you a ration of health so to speak. So count you BMI the formula is Weight in KG /Height in Metres Squared

for you this means 52/(1.7x1.7)=17.99

The BMI for a person of normal weight ranges from 18-24.

The person i spoke to told me that whenever i feel im fat to Weigh myself and count My BMI. If it hasnt chnged more then 0.5 units to tell myself firmly that i am FINE.

I find that it works for me..try it. Hope this helps

You are in no position to assess your correct size. You are anxious and upset with your body and will continue to find fault no matter what size it is. Your friends and family know you best. They love you. If they say you are the correct size, you and I have no reason to believe different.
