I smelled like latex when only using lube and no condom after sex with my girlfriend

After having sex a couple of times with my gf at the time, we didn't use condoms, and this was our first time together in a few months, since we live apart (I also noticed it once more that week, but not as strong, and one other time prior), I noticed the smell of something latex like after I touched was cleaning up. I used astroglide, and I pulled out before finishing. I didn't smell it when I went down on her, but I smelled it on myself afterwards, mixed with the lube, and I just seemed to have that distinct smell as if I had just worn a condom on myself, which I hadn't.

I am wondering, even if I didn't wear a condom, and only used astroglide, is it possible that any leftover residue inside of her had rubbed off on me to make it smell like that, or is it more likely it is just her PH mixing with the lube to create that smell?

I don't really suspect that she cheated- but it did worry me and cross my mind at the time, as I haven't noticed it since. Some of my other findings have stated that if she had BV (Bacterial Vaginosis) or altered PH, it could cause this smell.

I noticed this a small handful of random times, and wondering why I get that smell sometimes and not other times.

Honeypie agony auntYep, Like Cindy mentioned GP is your doctor.

Well, I can see why she wasn't happy with the implied accusation.

Don't forget BOTH sperm and stuff like astroglide can easily change the PH in the vagina and who knows how that affects HER scent below.

And if she douches with scented stuff... even worse.

Do you smoke? Drink a lot of coffee?

The scent of "latex" might be of your own making? Which is why I'd talk to a doctor as they know a LOT more about this.

This is why we need talking dogs! I think the human nose could be tricked by other scents and is fallible.

Hmmm. Interesting idea: I wonder if you could test your willy for the presence of latex chemically... CSI: Cheaters Edition!

My GP or GF? Not sure what GP is haha. But yes, I asked her. It didn't go over too well, she got defensive, but assured me nothing was happening, but it still doesn't explain anything in my head. It's easier to just keep denying in today's dishonest world.

She's actually a current GF... So I have been speculating because I don't see her that often. I was checked already- no issues there. Just was trying to figure out if anything could mimic that smell.

Honeypie agony auntI really can't say if "something in there" mixed with astogel can make it smell like latex. Who knows? It would not make sense for any woman to not clean "in there" between partners or at least once a day.

So the smell being seemingly latex, I have no idea. Each woman have their own scent (more or less) - but I don't think "latex-like" is a "normal" scent.

Could she have used a toy (with a condom or if latex-like material) before you two had sex and not cleaned up? Possible.

The thing is... there is no way of knowing. But I would suggest you go get yourself checked out for STD's and not have unprotected sex - unless both you and your partner have had recent checkups.

But really... what's the point in speculating? She is an ex, right?

Interesting points. I guess the unique thing was this was the first time we were back together in 3 months- but she swears she has been loyal. I also noticed it one of the first few times we were together also.. Everything else you say makes sense. Just was wondering if something in there mixed with the astroglide when rubbed off, could semi-mimic the smell of latex? HMmmm....

A female reader, Honeypie United States +, writes (2 June 2018):

Honeypie agony auntWhy does the smell alter at times?

Because the PH does alter throughout the menstrual cycle. If she DID have BV she could have passed that on to you and you passed it back to her because you didn't use CONDOMS. Some minor bacterial changes can "heal" itself but if you two were passing it back and forth it would return.

Another thing is food and drinks. If she had a weekend of let's say heavy drinking and smoking the "scent/flavor" below is different from how it would be if she had a week of eating a lot of fruit and drinking water.

Alcohol, tobacco, red meat, coffee, fruit, water, vitamins... etc. can ALL alter the "scent/flavor" for both men and women.

OR she could have used condoms on her sex-toys?

And there Is the possibility that the Astroglide is what changed the PH balance in her vagina and it can have caused the BV if she didn't clean up right after.

So there is no proof of her doing anything with anyone else because of what you smelled.
