I'm afraid that, unless she is bisexual, you don't have a very good chance of having a romantic/dating/sexual relationship with her. Sexual preference stays with a person throughout his or her life. It never changes. The only time that it appears to "change" is when a person comes out of the closet, so to speak, revealing his or her true sexual preference. Kayla seems comfortable with her sexuality, though, if she has said so herself that she is gay. I doubt that she would say she was gay if she weren't. There is nothing wrong with her being gay, but unfortunately for you, there is no changing her preference!
Although it doesn't seem possible for you to have a dating relationship with Kayla, you could certainly be her friend.
