He also recently graduated from the Police Academy in my city. We have been friends and that all we have been. He ended up dating a detective on the force (she was 27 he is 23) and now even though they have broken up I feel he doesn't want a woman like me since he is used to dating a more successful woman. So...I decided to join the Police dept as well. I have already taken the neccessary steps in doing so. And I am hoping to gain his attraction by it. Yes I have given it more thought and I actually love the idea of joing the police dept anyway. Basically yes I am doing it for a man and yes I am doing it for me. But why do I feel like something is wrong? Is there something that I don't see wrong with this that you do? Or is it just natural to second guess your decisions in life? Soon2B_PPD is verified as being by the original poster of the questionThank you guys so much. And honestly, even though I didn't get the idea until him. I feel that I would do it without him being a cop. And @Lazy Guy, I did try that approach. He labelled me as a friend. Then we slept together. So I feel if he only wanted me as a friend than he wouldn't have slept with me. And the way he was acting while we were "doing it" made me feel his feelings where a little deep. Idk....I'm going to go thru with it. If I can get him in the process that's a plus, but if not I don't think I will die.

I kind of think you convinced yourself that you're joining the police dept for yourself also. Perhaps it could wind up being the best decision you made, but certainly in the future don't change career paths because of some guy. If you like someone in the Navy next are you going to join the Navy?

Wouldn't it have been easier to say to him "I like you, do you like me"?

It sounds like you're joining the Academy just to get his approval and acceptance. If you hadn't met your friend would you have even considered joining? If it's something that you truly want to do then go ahead, but if you're doing it just so somebody would like you, I would advise against it as you may regret it later.
