i was just wondering if i am normal, and if im not, what can I do to change? Basically, a year ago i was over 10 stone. Then i lost all the weight, and got to 8 stone. I felt happy, and good about myself. But then my cousin stayed over and I saw how slim she was, I wanted to get skinnier. I got to 7 stone, then i was too skinny. Suddenly i felt the need for chocolate, which i hadnt eaten for about 5 months. I would binge on it, and gained all the weight back for christmas. Then, after christmas day, i lost the weight again and got to 7 and a half stone. Then i gained it again after my birthday in the end of jan, nw im back to where I started again, fat. What shuld i do? Im so confused. I just cant get out of this endless cycle! I've tried to be normal, but it just wont work. I have to either starve or binge, its what i live for. My freinds are even beginning to not like me nw as im so obsessed. Its either, i cnt stop eating food, or i cant stop thnking about food as i havnt had it for so long. What can I do? Please help.

Thanksxxx

Boonridge McPhalify agony aunteveryone thinks about food and to do so is normal. but you have gotten into an obsessive pattern of thinking which is unhealthy. you need to develop hobbies and a healthy diet.

binging on chocolate and then restricting your food intake is bad when you are developing as neither behaviour will help your body grow healthy and could lead to osteoperosis and other health problems in later years. chocolate is not a good food to eat if you cannot have it in small amounts. it contains a lot of sugar and bad fats and has a low nutritional content. often when we crave a certain food and overdo it it is because our body is lacking something vital that it needs to function and these kind of desires for certain nutrients will occur more when we are growing as they are needed to build the body.

learning to control your wieght through regular (breakfast, lunch and dinner) eating of fish, lettuce, nuts, vegetables, fruit and stable healthy excercise like walking and swiming will prevent your weight from rising rapidly and you wont need to starve yourself either. but you are growing and it would be very very unnatural if your weight did not increase over time during puberty.

you have problems with your self image and this has become an obsession. if you talk about your wieght all the time people will get bored because it becomes monotonous and is all about you and how you feel which doesn't make good conversation. most peole need a coverstaion to relate to them in some way to find it worth paying attention to. i doubt your friends dislike you they just find this boring.

you need to direct your overactive mind into something productive-join a drama group or paint or sew and make clothes. anything you can do to express yourself and help define you is good. your need for identity like all teenagers is strong but appearances are shallow and are not what being a human is all about. if you believe that all you care about is your appearance then how you look will cause you tremendous stress. you will find in life that many things cause you pleasure or stress- friends, school, work, money, but if you attribute mood changes resulting from normal reactions to everyday events as being caused by your image when it is not you will find that how you see yourself changes rapidly from hour to hour and your thinking will become distorted.

avoid problems with self image by finding things in life that you are good at, set yourself goals and revel in your success when you do well.

magazines and tv promote shallow traits about image that make us insecure to make us buy stuff to feel better making money for the products advertised which in turn helps fund the magazines. its a big circle of comercial brain warping and they pay top class psychologists to mess with your mind for the sake of getting their hands on your money.

pretty silly

i have been exactly wear you are, an to an extent i will always be very wary of my weight and food. the best advice i can give to you is to go to the doctors they will refer you to a dietican who will try and help you organise your day, which i found extrmeley helpful. and they will refer you to and eating disorders hospital, wear you would go for conselling.

dont be scared to go at them not taking you seriously, or because you have had a massive binge and the scales arent going to be to kind, i refused to be weighed numerous times. good luck, it a horrible way to be feeling, but u can get out of it!
