I havent had any side effects and neither have my friends that im aware of.I take it for 28 days then stop for 7 days for my period and then continue taking it again.
You can get it free from your doctor they wont tell your parents if you dont want them knowing. The pill stops you getting pregnant but doesnt stop STD's. You have to be careful with the pill as if you are taking antibiotics it stops the pill from working.

Hi,
Side effects of the pill can vary from person to person and from pill to pill. When I was your age I didn't realise there are about 10 different types of pill and different ones affect different people in different ways. Some make some people gain weight. Some cause acne, some cure acne. Some cause your periods to stop, others just cause your periods to be lighter and less painful. Some cause bad mood swings, others regulate PMT. If you do choose to go on the pill it's useful to tell the doctor what monthly problems you get. For me, it was spotty skin and water retention so she prescribed me a pill that helps both of those symptoms. However, a different pill might be more suitable for someone else.
The pill only prevents pregnancy and if you are having sex you must also use condoms to prevent STDs. As I said the pill can also be used to make your periods lighter and to treat acne but its general purpose is as a contraceptive. You need to see the doctor to get it. They can prescribe it to under 16s if they think you are mature enough to be having sex. Your parents will not be told. The doctor usually prescribes enough for a three month trial to start with and you have to see them again after this time to have some checks done before being given another prescription. You need to take responsibility for not running out of them yourself. Finally, all prescriptions are free in the UK while you're under 16 and the pill together with most other contraceptive devices (although not condoms) is free whatever age you are. Hope this answers all your questions.
