I have the same problem. Let me guess - face, back, stomach, chest? You are young so I have some bad news for you... it's about to get a lot worse. The first thing to do is go to a doctor and get your hormones checked. You might have PCOS. Otherwise just do what I do. Shave your arms and legs, and wear jeans and t-shirts and act like nothing is wrong. If it bothers you a lot shave your stomach and back every few days as well - but don't wax sensitive areas or you will ruin your skin. Shaving will not make your hair grow back thicker - it is just a myth. It may seem like it is growing back thicker but hair naturally falls out and grows back thicker in the teenage years. Waxing your arms and legs may work to reduce the hair.

Just try to forget about it. Once you are older - in your early twenties and have made a bit of money you can try getting laser hair removal for your body. For your face try electrolysis as doing laser on your face can sometimes make it worse. That's about the best advice I can give you. I am really sorry about your problem but just know that there are solutions and you won't have to deal with it your entire life. Just try to focus on other things for now - school and friends. That's what I did and it worked fine for me.

A male reader, anonymous, writes (13 September 2010):

for the record,

HAIR DOES NOT GROW BACK IN THICKER AFTER SHAVING IT! Everybody who's repeating this old wive's tale needs to go on Snopes and read up on it.

Hair seems to grow back thicker because shaving causes a sharp and sudden end to the hair, where as a plucked or waxed hair grows back in with a tapered end (making it initially appear thinner). When all is said and done, if you let the hair grow back in completely after shaving or waxing, it'll be exactly the same.

Waxing or plucking is more effective than shaving in that you're removing the hair from the root, meaning that the regrowing hair won't breach the skin line immediately. You also won't have any razor burn if you go this route.

Hope this helps a little.

I like the waxing answer as a short time remedy, but I STRONGLY suggest that you see a doctor as this can be an indication of a hormonal imbalance. This may be treatable through medicine, but it would be best to let a doctor determine if there may be a more serious, underlying issue (such as a problem with a gland).

wax is the best way to get of hair, I know it hurts but that's only for the beginning.

When you wax: the hair grows back a month and a half later and the roots get week over time.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (13 September 2010):

ok, if you're dark haired thats a major problem. i should know, i have to get rid of arm hair, leg hair, the bikini area, armpithair,my girlstach, and even knuckle hair. one easy but painful way is waxing, which i do. it's actually the best way because after a while the hair grows back thinner and then not at all. DON'T EVER SHAVE AGAIN!!! hair grows back thicker and thicker every time!!!

so if you don't have the money to buy expensive wax in the store you can make it yourself, like i do. you'll need

2 cups of sugar

1 cup of water

1 cup of lemon/lime juice

you mix the ingredients and cook them in a pot on the stove till it thickens. if it's not thick enough you will need to put in more sugar till it is. let it cool off for at least one hour.if you touch it and it almost burns you its obviously not ready. you can make waxing strips from and old cotton t-shirt, and after every use you can wash and re-use them. apply the wax in the direction of the growing hair and put on the strip. pull it off in the opposite direction. any wax left can be washed off easily. good luck!! and also, after a few times it won't hurt at all :)

21w agony auntTalk to your doctor. Maybe some male hormones are getting too active. Or something.

But at your age it is normal to start having more hair in places you never thought you would have. ))

Just relax about it and find a best way to take care of that. Some use razor, some waxing. I found mine recently- Remington Smooth & Silky Ultra Shaver. It works great.

I hate the feeling of newly grown hair on my legs. So I also had to shave it every day. Don't worry too much and if it is still bothering you and growing in REALLY weird places just ask your mom or dad to take you to the doctor. Or just got there yourself.

Best of luck!

You can use wax- Sally Hansen makes wax strips- or bleach hair to make it less visible. (If you do use bleach, make sure to test a patch on your arm to make sure you are not allergic to it.)

A female reader, tennisstar88 United States +, writes (12 September 2010):

tennisstar88 agony auntAnd where is this hair growing? Hair is going to grow back the next day especially if you're Italian. Gosh, I've got to shave my legs, bikini line and arms everyday. For that hairy upper lip, I find that plucking it is the best. I even get a 5 o'clock shadow at times, LOL. However, if your a blonde then you have nothing but what I call "peach fuzz" where you can get away with being hairy. Depending upon these areas, the only other options are waxing and getting laser hair removal which is insanely expensive, plus I'm sure you have to be a certain age. So you're not alone on this one!

A female reader, fi_the_tree United Kingdom +, writes (12 September 2010):

fi_the_tree agony auntIt depends on where this hair is growing...

A pricey (but effective) treatment is electrolysis - where an electrical pulse is sent through the hair, killing the folical, meaning that the hair won't grow back.

As i said it's pricey though. You can always use bleaching creams, which lighten the hair making them less visible against your skin. Maybe go to a beauty salon, see if you can get it waxxed off?? lasts a while and the hairs grow back thinner (unlike shaving - where the hair grows back thicker)

Do some research on electrolysis, that's pretty much all i can think of anyway. Good luck!!
