I assume your question is based upon a wish to be "pure" for your (future) husband/BF. If so, then I don't think that any men cares about the technical term of virginity, but about your sexual experience. I don't think there are any men who think that an operation (or in some cases riding a horse!) makes you a less virgin!

I guess virginity is a moral definition, some (very few!?) would say that a person without sexual experience with others, but that fingers herself is not a virgin. Some would say that it is ok as long as you don't think of another person, or don't use porn etc. For some (still very few, but for the majority of "old-fashioned" people) the line is drawn with sexual intercourse with other people (and/or oral-sex).

A female reader, anonymous, writes (16 December 2010):

you're a virgin until you have sexual intercorse with a guy. hymen's can break from fingering yourself, tampons, and sometimes even very physicly active girl's hymens can break, because of the movement of the legs, it can snap. but if your hymen breaks from something like this, IT DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE NO LONGER A VIRGIN. it's a natural occurance and it was meant to break, since it is a very thin piece of tissue. some girls hymens never even break. they just stretch durring sex, and some girls believe that that means they are still a virgin, which is wrong. only until you have sex are you a virgin; after that your not.

Hi Hopeful31,

I totally agreed with Youwish. Females have 2 holes in their reproductive system, vagina and urethra. Catheter wouldn't de-virginized you because it doesn't go into your vagina; it goes into your urethra, which is your second hole, that is connected to your bladder. Beside, catheter's diameter is not that big enough to de-virginized in case it was misinserted in your vagina. Same as you fingers.

largentsgirl89 agony auntYou are and always will be a virgin until you have had sexual intercourse. Where a penis penetrates your vagina in a sexual manner. Until then, you are a virgin. Some women are born without a hymen.

SceneXaddicted agony auntDepends on if your "cherry" was poped I suppose. Depends on how you look at it. Physcailly, your body may not register as "virgin" because that is the inhibit of any penetration, However, the actual Term of "virgin" is to have sexual intercourse for the first time. So it all depends on what it means to you.

A female reader, YouWish United States +, writes (15 December 2010):

YouWish agony auntYou're still a virgin. Trust me. You fingering yourself doesn't de-virgin you.

Even moreso, you had a Foley catheter inserted into your vulva, which isn't the same as your vagina. Unlike a guy, we don't use the same orifice for urination. As someone who has also had a catheter inserted into me for 5 days this year, it's not quite as fun as sex. ;)

Even if it WAS your vagina, it wouldn't mean you were no longer a virgin. To lose your virginity, there is only one thing that can penetrate you, and that is a guy's penis. If that has not happened, it wouldn't matter if you put $30 in quarter rolls in there. You're still a virgin.

BTW, PLEASE don't do anything with quarter rolls!
