It's rare but it can, and does, happen.

There are reasons why this can happen. In the first month it is called implantation bleeding (or spotting) and is lighter than your normal period. It’s bleeding resulting from the implantation of the embryo. If these apparent periods go on for more than a month as has happened in your case, it is probably to do with hormone levels not being high enough for parts of the womb lining to which the placenta isn’t attached from coming away as they would in a normal period. Rarely, that can persist throughout the pregnancy. However, if you bleed again, get along to your doctor without delay. There may be nothing to worry about but bleeding during pregnancy should always be checked out by a medical expert as it can indicate cause for concern. Likewise, don’t substitute the advice I’ve given you for a medical opinion, if you’re at all worried by the monthly bleeds you’ve been having you need to speak again with your doctor. Obviously you will have checkups as the pregnancy progresses and you must take these as opportunities to ask any questions.
I wish you all the very best.

I don't know how 'normal' it is but I have a friend who got to 6 months before she found out she was pregnant. She was still having periods. Her baby is a heathy one year old now.
She had felt run down in the months before she found out she was pregnant, but that was all. She wasn't 'showing' at all - at least, not that I could tell.
Hope it all works out for you.

It happens. My mother got her period as well during pregnancy and didn't know she was pregnant until 5 months in. I've heard several other stories as well where this happens.

Absolutely. Yes
I worked with a girl who had regular periods all her pregancy. And did not know she was pregnant.
And she was still taking the contraceptive pill all through her pregnancy.
She was a slightly plump girl.
One day she called in sick and her husband thought she had food poisoning. He was off to the hospital with her as she was in so much pain.
Imagine their shock when the hospital said that she was in labour? The baby was born a little early and had to stay in hospital for another six weeks. So she did not go full term. The baby survived.
All they could determine was that many months earlier she had had a real tummy upset and had vomited a lot.
But no one ever thought that could lead to a breakdown in her protection from getting pregnant.
The Doctor confirmed otherwise.
The vomiting over a 24 hour period meant that her contraception was compromised and as a result she got pregnant.
It was winter over the period that her weight gain started to show and her husband had assured her than when the weather warmed up that he would help her to lose the weight she had been gaining. Not suspecting that it was their growing baby.
She never felt any morning sickness.
And maybe because she was already a little plump she never felt the baby kicking.
Neither she nor her husband had put two and two together to imagine that she was pregnant.
And I have heard of it happening to other people too.
