I cry, I shout, I scream, I do a thousand other things. I don't mind that, it's just that whenever I do it, it's really obvious that I'm on my period and it gets kinda embarrassing. Any tips on how to control my mood swings?

lizzies-t is verified as being by the original poster of the questionHey, thanks for all your help.I've just Wikipedia-ed PMDD and I really, really think I have it. There was a whole list of symptoms and it said underneath that if you have 5 or more of them...and I practically have the whole lot. Thanks to Stayc for suggesting that, it really helped. I'm gonna go have a look in with my GP about how to cope with it because it's not serious, it's just that it sometimes affects my studies and my best friend's really getting a bit worried about me now, so thank you so much!

I am the same way as you. Only I am quite happy when people understand that I'm on my period when I act crazy and more emotional rather than just think I am insane! I am also a very emotional person in general so that time of the month is basically crying every hour or so about the most random crap. Birth control will help. You may have PMDD which is more severe than just PMS symptoms. You will just need to see your gynocologist and talk with him/her about how emotional you are on your period and what birth control could help you out with it. I know Yaz is one for PMDD, but you would need to actually know if that's what you have I'm sure. Good luck.

Birth control does help, but please never take YAZ or YASMIN. I took Yaz for about a year and i got irregular periods, leg cramps, and now I have heart and lung problems.
If you doctor suggests it ask for a different brand. It's too much of a risk to curtail some simple emotional issues trust me.

I eventually explained what i was like to my doctor and they gave me some tablets called duphaston which are a hormonal tablet used for different things like pms, to reduce heavy and painful periods etc... maybe mention these tablets to your doctor. i didnt have to take them everyday, it was for 2 weeks out of every month and they stopped me from feeling angry, irritable and emotional. hope this helps, good luck!

I was exactly the same, i was unsure what to do and was also embarrassed of how i was. I went to the doctors and i was put on the pill, this helps with pains which you havent said you are suffering with but also helps with mood swings. Now, it isnt as bad at all, in fact far from it.
My advice is go and see the GP, it is nothing to be embarrassed of, lots of girls go through this.
Good luck xx
