Everytime I shave my pubic area I come out in a rash that looks really horrible. I don't want to wax, I want to shave but is there anything I can do that will stop me coming out in a rash? Such as a cream or a certain razor? Only whenever I go on holiday I have to cover it up and whenever I have sex with my boyfriend I try to prevent him from looking at it as much as possible. I want to feel more confident and be totally comfortable walking around naked in front of him. Any useful tips? Please help xx

it's really annoying isn't it! every time I shave there i'm smooth for a day or two, but then the stubble starts growing, itches like crazy when i'm wearing underwear and I end up scratching until it's all red n bumpy and horrible. then wait a few days before shaving again. I'm not sure how to stop it, but I don't think it's going to bother your bf that much. It's a natural reaction of your skin and if he likes the bare look i'm sure he prefers some bumpy skin for a couple of days rather than lots of hair.

I've see strippers up close with shaving rash! lol

Don't shave! You'll look fabulous, the way nature intended! Much more sexy that way. Who wants to look like a little girl down there?

A female reader, birdynumnums Canada +, writes (1 March 2007):

birdynumnums agony auntThat "Tend Skin" stuff is effective, use it right after you shave and the next day too. Never shave two days in a row, better to leave it for 4 or 5 'till you shave again (so shave Thursday or Friday for the weekend). Always exfoliate before you shave and if you get bumpy, exfoliate and use the "Tend Skin" as directed. Waxing or hair removal cream has always left me with less of a rash than shaving, but honestly - I don't think that there is a cure for the ocsasional bump. Sorry.

hi. I shave and so do many of my friends, most of us have had this problem at sometime. we found that if you let it grow a little then shave, not using shaving foam or soap (this may sound strange) but use a gentle conditioner..like you do on your head hair, it leaves you alot smoother and rash free.

Hope this helps

sachluph agony auntI used to have the same problem until a girlfriend told me to try using a semi blunt razor .. Never looked back, no more rash, or bumpy chicken skin.

Shaving against the hair growth will cause ingrowing hairs, so always shave in the direction that the hair grows to start with.

all this is good advice, and exfoliating is the key, maybe try a hair removal cream and see if that helps, or just be brave and wax - it not that painful, give it a try. hey were expected to give birth you know! also waxing is so much better as the hairs are gone for a lot longer and when they grow back, because theve grown from scratch, they grow with a pointed tip, so they dont feel 'rough'. shaving just chops the hair and it grows back with a 'square' tip if u can understand, causing a cactus like feel. lol. also always use a new blade if you must continue shaving, never a blunt one. ive heard that if you shave long enough, and often enough your skin gets 'used' to it, after it has done its itchy rash phase - not sure how true this is though.

you will find a solution - neva mind. xxx

p.s. all those porn stars only have silky smooth fannies cos theve been airbrushed - really they also get rashes and ingrowns - real woman like us - just cant airbrush our selves!

xxxsoulsistaxxx agony auntThis sounds like you have some ingrowing hairs. It's very common and most people get at least a couple when they shave a sensitive area. Exfoliating will help the hairs come through but I have also found a great ointment you can put on it and it will clear upreally fast! It's not cheap thought, check the internet and find some. It's called 'Tend Skin' liquid. I promise, this is miracle stuff!

Good luck

A female reader, cd206 United Kingdom +, writes (1 March 2007):

cd206 agony auntYes I've got two. First try to use a shaving cream rather than soap and try to use one for sensitive skin. Secondly, more importantly, always moisturise the area fully with a dry skin moisturiser like nivea after shaving. It stops the hairs from growing back too quick and from becoming ingrown which is part of the reason for your rash. Also, if you're getting red spots with a white dot in the middle it's probable that the hair ingrown so either have a hot bath or press a hot flannel to the area to draw the hair out. Hope these suggestions help. And don't worry too much about your boyfriend seeing your rash. I bet he'd find it preferable to you not doing anything at all to your netherregions!!
