Hi i know this isn't really a problem someone would right on here but if someone could give some advice or if they did the same thing as me and tell me what result they got out of it i'd be greatful. Ok i'm 16 and taking my GCSE's this year. Today i have just done my last english language exam and have had to write a letter to an editor. Now your gonna think this question is some form of joke or you'll probably just laugh but please don't because i'm seriously worried that the fact that i forgot to put the address on the letter i wrote (i hasn't got to be sent off or anything it was just in the exam) i just wrote the letter out and started with dear sir or madam now i know its a stupid question but do you think it will make a dramtic difference to my marks as i've done everything else they told me to put.

This is driving me mad as i want to go on to do a course in childcare nd i need the english language GCSE or i will have to do an extra year at college. If anyone has took exams recently and forgot the little but obvious things could you let me know how you went on please cuz this is driving me mad and i really don't want to fail. Please i would be greatful for any answers please!

No the question is looking at the content of the letter not your ability to write adresses. I had to do the same thing in my English GCSE and I got an A* and I didn't write an adress. It's a silly thing to worry about, no offence :) I'm sure you did fine and good luck with your college course!

I did that English exam yesterday, was it writing to a newspaper about a music festival?

If you do not put your address on the letter you will just loose a few points for that question only.

If I remember correctly the question is worth 20 points. The whole exam paper was made up of 80 points, so that one question was worth 25% of the grade. So even if you lost 2 marks, your final grade would be unlikely to be affected.

To do a course in Childcare you need a grade C, and provided you did OK in your exams, you'll get that easily. Don't stress, you'll do fine! :)

Farris agony auntI took my English Literature & Language A Level two years ago, and my GCSEs 4 years ago (Does that qualify me to knowing what I'm talking about?).

They won't fail you simply for your mistake. It will cost you marks, but not the whole exam, so don't worry about completely failing if you are sure that you did to the best of your ability in the rest of the exam.

Just try to stay positive on this one. Everyone makes small mistakes in exams (I completely forgot how to calculate the area of a triangle in my maths GCSE), but it's not the end of the world. Where I went to school & sixth form college, if you failed either Maths or English, they let you retake those GCSEs whilst you studied for your A Levels/AVCEs/BTEC/etc.

Just try not to stress out about your exams, and take it easy. Once you have taken them all, you can just relax; there's nothing you can do anymore!

And just so you know, I'm going to be starting my last year at Uni starting in September. Looks like that mistake with the area of a triangle was pretty trivial in the end.

Best wishes, and good luck for your results! Let us know what you get! :)

cd206 agony auntOkay, well I'm not an exam marker but I doubt you'll lose many marks for it! In the language exam they're marking you on how you use your language. And even if you do fail which I really doubt you will, there will be plenty of options to resit it in September or January. Maybe tell your english teacher what happened since they're more likely to be able to put your mind at rest totally but if you're not comfortable with that just forget it now, we all make mistakes and what's done is done. However much you worry it can't be changed now. I'm sure it'll be fine.
