I do not want to be a doormat but at the same time I can't walk out on her!

Question - (4 August 2010) 1 Answers - (Newest, 4 August 2010)
A male United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

I have been in love with a woman, she knows it as well and has asked me for time to commit. We hang out together a lot and spend a lot of time together. She has had some past issues with relationships and I understand her need for time to decide.

She recently went to another city for a vacation and told me she will be out with her family there. I had no reason to believe otherwise but by mistake she sent me a mail to some other guy about their plans to be together in the other city. The other guy as it turned out is a married man with kids.

When I confronted her about it and told her I am moving on as there is no point in my waiting if she goes around with other men, she called me back and asked me not to leave her repeatedly and repeatedly kept asking me if i still love her.

She is back today and I will be meeting her, I am really not sure what to do. I love her far too much but I feel my own pride is at stake here. I do not want to be a doormat but at the same time I can't walk out on her.

A male reader, CaringGuy United Kingdom +, writes (4 August 2010):

In fairness, you're not committed at this time. But look at the big picture here. This is a woman who needed time to decide. Instead of taking time, she went and met another guy. Worse still, this is a married man with kids. Would you really put trust in a woman who made you wait while she went and had sex with a married man, showing no respect for his marriage, and little for herself? This isn't about pride. This is about a woman who is making you wait around while she he has fun, showing no respect to anyone, and throwing her own reputation out the window. That's not a woman I would trust. That's not a woman you can trust either. If she had problems, she needed to deal with them. Instead, she used you as a pole to lean on, and had no problem lying and having an affair with a married man. You cannot trust her at all, and it's essential for your own future that you let her go. This is a woman who will ultimately cheat on you.
