I kinda laughingly replied that I was surprised cause I was so sure that he had a girlfriend. He said he does, but that she won't mind if we just go as friends. It might sound weird, but I'm getting strange vibes, almost like he wasn't telling me the whole truth. Am I just being overly hopeful, or do you think that something's going on? Yes, I think perhaps you're being overly hopeful I have a daughter your age and she and her boyfriend are very trusting of each other. He goes out quite often with girls who are his friends and she has male friends too. The best thing is to accept what he's saying and not build up your hopes. Just have a good time with him and be friends. If you don't think you can handle that then I would ask someone else. I agree that he wouldn't be so open with his girlfriend if there was some hidden agenda. Good luck!

I think if something was going on he wouldn't have admitted to the girlfriend to be honest. I'm fairly sure he's just got an incredibly chilled girlfriend and he wants to be your friend.
