Hello,

I am pregnant at 26 years old and thin/fit...size 3/4. I am not showing at all! I have my first ultrasound on Thurs., but I'm so afraid something is wrong. After I was born, and my mother was pregnant again, she went for an ultrasound at 12 weeks only to discover the baby was dead, and had to have it aborted. My morning sickness (although it was supposed to get better after 12 weeks) is gone, my breasts don't hurt anymore, I feel my stomach is shrinking....!! But no blood, no miscarriage, no stomach cramps. I'm only feeling sick because this is stressing me out so much and I wish today was Thursday!! I made this appointment weeks ago because I don't have a family doctor anymore (she retired), and this was the soonest this clinic could get me in. This wasn't even a planned pregnancy, but I feel if the fetus has stopped developing, I'd be so heart-broken and lost!

Anyone experience something like this? Aren't you supposed to show somewhat at 14 weeks?

Thanks!!!

The only thing I can say is wait and see; Thursday is just now. 95% you are probably all fine and for a first pregnancy you won't show until about 18/20 weeks. Morning sickness gets better after the first 10 weeks. Buy the book called "What to Expect When You Are Expecting"; it really helped me with my first pregnancy.

I personally though once had that issue where I felt great during one of my pregnancies. Then when I went to the scan the baby had no heartbeat. I had to have a minor operation called a D&C to remove it. Ofcourse the other posters are going to be upset with me for saying all this: So while chances are your baby is fine, if anything happens then you must realise that sometimes nature will find that there may have been a genetic problem with the baby and will just stop development. Maybe it was going to be deformed or very sick. A friend of mine had to have a late abortion because she was developing a baby without a head. Another friend lost a baby an hour after birth after she had loved it for 9 months. So if you ever find that your baby is gone while its still less than an inch in size at this stage, it will be painful to accept but perhaps even more so carrying it to term then losing it after its born or having it struggle to the end only to deliver a disabled child. I may not have offered much comfort but its important for you to understand that miscarriage is not always a bad thing. It hurts but is sometimes necessary if that baby was not going to survive. Scientists say that all child bearing women will have at least 2 miscarriages in their lifetime and most occur without us knowing. At least for you, the fact that you can get pregnant proves that you are fertile so in the unlikely event that anything happens, you will still have children in future.

However, at this stage you will be in your 2nd trimester so you must enjoy this period of your pregnancy, once your scan has confirmed for you that the baby is fine. The sickness is over but nothing is heavy yet and you will be able to sleep better and eat a variety of foods now. So enjoy this time; critical development is taking place so take your vitamins and eat healthily. Come back and let us know how it went.

Thanks for the responses and thoughts. I think I did panic. I just thought when you're thin, you're supposed to show more...even a little tiny bump. I thought I saw that, but then lost my appetite for a couple days, and my stomach is back to totally flat and where is what is supposed to be the 3.5 inches inside of me by now? I did more research and I guess it's normal for some people not to start showing until sometimes much later than 3 months, but it just seems odd to me that the baby is supposed to be the size of lemon, but no sign of it. Thanks again.

Hey. Ok, this is obviously your first pregnancy correct? Considering you are thin, you will not be showing at 14 weeks. Well most women don't anyways. I wear a size three and with my daughter, I didn't really get any stomach until I was about 20 weeks. That's how it is for a lot of women. But once it starts growing, it doesn't stop! I would say your morning sickness going away and your sore boobs going away is because you are out of your first trimester! Of course, I am not a doctor and you definitely should go see your doctor on Thursday as planned. But I would like to give you a little peace of mind and tell you that you and the baby are probably fine. That sounds like a lot what happened with me. I just didn't freak out much! I hope I helped and congratulations on your baby!
