At 16 and female you are pretty much done growing, so a doctor is not likely to have a problem with you losing weight. 16 is also a great time to make the lifestyle changes necessary for lifelong fitness. Weight watchers is a great inexpensive diet and support system. Sparks people is also one. If you and your doctor think you need medical support to achieve your goal, there is a hormone based diet therapy available but it is expensive.
Any way congratulations on setting the goal. If you realize that this is a long term commitment to a lifestyle change you will do fine. Please don't feel that you need to look like a model. Just get to a healthy body fat percentage then be happy with your shape. Be sure that exercise is involved in your long term plans.

There are no "fast" ways to lose weight. The best committment you can make to yourself is to eat healthy and get some daily exercise. Start by cutting out fast food, and deserts. Eat more fiber (fills you up and keeps you full without adding inches) such as nuts, and grainy cereals like brain and oatmeal. Limit cokes, and high calorie coffee drinks. Avoid eating too many starches (like breads and potatoes) and add more fruit to your diet. Then get up off the couch, get away from the books, the video games and the computer and start moving. Walk your dog. Rake some leaves. Volunteer to wash your parents cars. Go for a bike ride, jog, do kick-boxing. The key is to burn a few more calories than you eat and you'll start losing weight safely. But it takes a while so don't expect 20 pounds to disappear overnight. Good luck.

First of all, crash dieting is NOT the way to go. I've tried it, and you're almost guarantied to gain the weight back. You should research healthy foods and the correct way to count calories and such. If you're looking for a program i'd suggest weight watchers. I have done it before and it's very helpful if you follow it. They have a very successful support system. Since you're under 18 you need a parent's approval. The best advice i can give to you is to eat healthy. Only put foods into your body that you know will help it function. Best of luck to you!
