why not do it with a call? (NOT a TEXT)
just call her
hints never work for some folks.

I got her number and tried cutting chase but the herd would just follow..... us
I even hinted but no help..
I will take further initiative but I don't want to do it on text or call.
the girl i like surely needs all my courage but her best friend clings on!

You have described the classic "guy-dilemma."
It's critical, when dealing with girls in pairs or groups, that you ID the one who catches your fancy, and CUT HER OUT FROM THE HERD ("Cowboy-talk", there!).....
Once you've gotten her where you can talk to her openly and frankly, you have a "clean slate" to pursue her....
Good luck.....
