To the first anonymous reply... I agree, except in one particular case: the boy is in that "painfully shy" stage. All the usual signs of interested are a lot less obvious. I would say that if you're interested in this guy, you need to make it a little easier for him to approach you -- find an excuse to be alone or need his help with something so you can break the ice and see if there's an attraction buried under that fear of rejection.
...and yes, this is speaking from experience...

to make it easier i will tell you if you are in the "romance" zone.
1) The guy will look at you alot.
2) He might mess around and joke alot.
3) He will try and show off infront of his friends.
4) His face will light up when he sees you.
5) He might move closer to you
6) Some lads say flirt a lot, some are completely the opposite,
7) If they blush, stumble over words or just generally come over slightly weird, they might as well be wearing a neon sign over their head saying, "I fancy you"
