However another doctor I went to, a younger female doctor she says if you take your first pill on the first day of your period you will be protected straight away. The young pharmaists also agreed with this doctor saying I would be protected straight away IF taken on the first day of bleeding. However when I told my male doctor what my female doctor and pharmaist told me, he was in shock and said that is not true. He even asked me for their names, because I think he wants to report them. But bot the females they said that all the up to date and current literature says you are protected from day one if taken on first day of bleeding. They say that the view you have to wait at least a whole cycle/month or 7-14 days is outdated. My male doctor is quite old, so maybe he isnt up to date? I dont know who to believe!!! Please help. What do you do when one doctor tells you something different to another?

It depends entirely on the brand of pill.
Read the leaflet that it came with and that should tell you. But you can use condoms for a month to make sure if you want.
Good Luck!! xx

though many birth control brands vary, birth control becomes effective after the third pill (or, day) that you take it. However, if your asking how long does it take for you to be safe before having sex after starting the pill, most these days are 7 days. In other words, take the pill for 7 days before sex.
Hope it helps.

Good luck and Keep staying safe.

I'm not sure what the answer is here, but as far as I've ever heard, the safe way is to way until you finish at least one pack/7-14 days before you stop using a condom so your body gets used to the change in hormones. I think if you start when you're on your period, those would be placebo pills anyway, I think but I'm not 100% on it.
So, maybe your female doctor is right and there have been changes so that you are protected right away but, I mean, to be on the safe side, why not just continue to use condoms for at least another week or two?
Cheers!
