If you only get cold sores, you shouldn't get genital herpes. But if you give your partner oral sex or sex when you have a cold sore, they can contract it.

Hello there,if you have cold sores you will always be troubled from them, anything can trigger them off and sometimes stress is the culprit,or sometimes instead of getting a cold it comes out as i cold sore,i know all this as i too suffer this plight. You have to be very careful when having sex,no oral sex should be undertaken until the cold sore is completely gone,as you can spread this to the genital area,so be very very careful, and sorry no kissing until its completely gone as you will both end up with nasty sores all over your mouths, they lay dormant under your lips waiting for a trigger response.Hope this has been of some help.and i wish your cold sore bye very soon.maxie
