Hi there,

My Girlfriend found out she was pregnant around 8 weeks ago now and told me she had an abortion 6 weeks ago (she didn't want me there)

She said shes had her period a few weeks after the abortion too. I do believe her however this was such a big scare for me I want to be sure. We're going to the local clinic to get a pregnancy test done to prove to me.

So I was wondering, how do they do the tests at a clinic? how accurate are they after 6-8 weeks? How accurate are home tests after 6-8 weeks?

Thanks in advance.

pebble agony auntWell if she found out she was pregnant 8 weeks ago then she would be more that 8 weeks pregnant if she was still pregnant now. Home tests are accurate at this stage (she would be over 2 months gone) and at the clinic they'll either do a urine test or a blood test - most likely urine.

If still in doubt, they may do an ultrasound scan, because she would be far gone enough to be able to see the baby on the scan.

But seriously, why are you so paranoid? Why haven't you sorted it so that she doesn't get pregnant? If your having unprotected sex then you can expect this every other month.

And why don't you believe that she's had an abortion? Or do you think that the abortion hasn't worked? Because if she's had one there ain't going to be no baby in there any longer.

You need to sort this out. You sound like children and you're playing with HUMAN LIFE here.

niki20 agony aunt100% they test usually by blood/urine, the hormone levels in a pregnant womens body are high, by the nurses taking a urine sample is highly acurate, they use differant tests....then what you buy at a store, you know there more "high tech". the blood sample is usually the same, but chances are she should have been bleeding for a while after the abortion, thats what ive heard anyway, ive never had one honestly. but there pretty much on the money w/these tests.

I don't really understand this. She's had an abortion and had a period and yet you still want to get a pregnancy test?
