Lexie88 agony auntMy bf and I only use texts to let each other know one of us is running late, to send a reminder about something and so on.

If you want to build a proper relationship, stay away from text conversations. A long time ago I gave up on men who couldn't pick up the phone and call me...and it was the best decision I made.

I know you're young and texting is the norm but if you want the guy to treat you how you should be treated, you should expect more than text conversations.

Nobody can have a real conversation by texting. Usually I use it to tell my girlfriend I love her, to quickly as if she's okay and such and to say goodnight. But if I want a proper conversation, I use the phone to actually speak to her.

jessica-lea agony auntI agree with the previous answer, having phone calls is much more easier and practical as you can say what you want to say and say more of it.

Dont bother having long conversations via text message, use it just to arrange phone calls and meeting places etc...

And usually when two people are talking through text the very rarely say what they want to say, so it isnt great!

A female reader, pinktopaz United States +, writes (17 November 2009):

In my opinion, text is for short conversation. Personally, I hate when people want to have a full blown convo through text, it ends up taking 20 min, when we could have have a 5 min phone conversation. So instead of texting all the time, talk on the phone. Texting is so impersonal and a superficial form of communication.
