The one thing is though... i have just bought a pair of high heeled shoes [roughly 3.5 inches] and am finding it hard to walk in them! Does anyone know of any way i can learn to walk in them within such a short space of time, or will it just be simply to practice?Sorry that i made the question so long, but i felt you needed to know the rest of the information! Thanks for all of your help xox Reply to this Question Share |

Thanks for all of your advice... i've been practicing constantly... walking around in the house in my heels and trackies haha, and i've slowly started to get it, although i have a few bumps and bruises from the falls! I can't wait till the end of april until everyone sees that the tom boy is wearing a dress and heels lol.
Again thanks to you all =] xox

I was kind of in the same boat as you- I grew up in jeans and sneakers and at the age of 21, not much has changed! But recently I've slowly but surely been dressing a bit more girly for nights out and heels have now become as much a part of a night out as the post-club chippie and over-priced taxi home at half 3 in the morning!
My advice is to try not over-think it. You know how to walk right? So don't think too much. Have a wee practice in the house but don't worry if you struggle. You do get used to it. Don't worry so much about trivial things like your heels. Just have a good time and I'm sure you'll look great!
All the best :)

I developed a thing for high heels when I was about 14, before then I was a right tomboy shoe wise. Only really wore trainers and flats! The best way that I adjusted to them was practise, walk around the house in them, wear them in a bit so they're more comfortable, and also a must is gel pads!! Once you start wearing heels the balls of your feet often take a while to adjust, and it will be painful, so get the gel pads and really, they'll help so freakin much! :) the best way I found to keep my balance in them is to stride, nice straight posture, and one foot infront of the other, just like a catwalk model :) I find a strut like that usually stun's people :D x Becky x

I think the trick is to walk as if you are tiptoeing, as opposed to putting your weight on the heels. If I put my weight evenly on my foot, or heels down first like when we walk normally, I usually tripped [lol] At least that is what I do
When I wear my 2.5" heels I usually hold on to the arm of my partner/date until we sat down LOL
Aunt SatinDesire, where are you? [psst ... she used to be a model ... so she'd be the best person to give you the advice here]
I'll bet everyone will just be blown away by your new look and high heels!

This is a case of practice makes perfect. They do hurt a lot to begin with and you will topple a bit but persevere! You can get gel pads to put in ( unless they are open sandals then they would show) and this helps a bit with comfort. You need to strengthen your calf muscles and keep a straight back walking upright. Scuff the bottoms as eyeswideopen says and walk round the house , garden as much as possible so they are worn in a bit for your party. Have fun!

You don't want to step on the heel, then roll to the toe like in flats. So, point your toes and step on the ball of your foot directly. The heel itself is too narrow to be stable!
Maybe you should start with a lower heel- make it a slightly wider one - not those pencil-eraser stilettos!
Good luck :)

But in the meantime, remember to put you weight back, onto your heels and avoid balancing on your tip toes. Keep upright and your shoulders back. Practice in a mirror. Don't wear them too long, heels are terrible for your back, your feet, everything! :)

Practice, practice, practice. Walk on stairs, carpet, smooth floors, all over the place. Remember to scuff up the bottom of the shoes on some cement so you don't have to worry about slipping. You'll get the hang of it.
