I realize people are trying to be helpful, but please, a second person has said 'IF they had sex HE could go to jail' as it's illegal.

THIS IS NOT CORRECT, she is NOT a minor - This is the UK not the USA or Mexico.

The age of consent in the UK is SIXTEEN. The following link is an organisation for UK people under 25 to gain help and advice on sexual matters or pregnancy. The links CONFIRMS the information I initially gave, that 16 is the legal age of consent.

http://www.brook.org.uk/my-rights/sex-relationships-and-your-rights/having-sex

Telling this young girl that her boyfriend could go to prison if they had sex, could really scare and confuse her, so we must get facts right IF we are going to pass this kind of advice on to someone this young.

So if the original poster reads this, please take a look at the link I've added, so you can see for yourself. You do not have to worry.

Hönestly, the age difference isn't that much,in fact i prefer older ones, 'cos they're always mature, well , i don't know why they are against older boy friends, but the truth is..since u said you guys aren't planning to do anything,i think you should wait till when you are much older, then you can talk to them about your opinion and choice which i think matter most

Sorry you seem worried about what your family/parents will think about this very 'SMALL age gap'. Really this age gap is nothing at all, I expected you to be saying 29, not 19.

Statistically, the average age gap between couples is 4-5 years, that's not just at the dating stage but for most couples that end up getting married, the man is usually about four to five older.

If you get on well with your parents, and can talk to your Mum, why not tell her about him, I'm sure she will understand if you're open with her, and act is a sensible way. And especially if he's nice guy and is treating you well, so try not to worry too much.

Oh yes, it is NOT illegal, not sure where the previous response got that from, well not if you're 16, you are not under age. If you had been 14 or 14 then yes, but you are not, so please don't add this to your worries.

I hope feel more confident now you now the gage isn't vast, and it really isn't!

Adorskable agony auntIts not such a big age difference but it is illegal since you are a minor. Honestly to be frank I would not put a red flag up but I'm not your parent so I would advise you to be caution and respect their decision. If they ok with it than go with the flow, if not than you will have to respect that and call it quits.
