I agree with nologo- think back to when you were a virgin and didn't really know what you were doing.
Try moving your boyfriend's hand to where you do like it would be a good thing to do.
If you sit with him on a one on one basis and explain what you like and how you like it being done and ask him what he likes it might make it a less like you are trying to tell him he's doing it wrong.

So were you clued up on what to do then? NO.
"never been anyones first before", but someone was your first.
Anyway, the key phrase here is "i dont know how to teach him".
If you wanna teach him, you need to override thinking whether you can be "embarrasing him or making him feel inadequate".
