 Yes, ask her for guidence. Tell her you want to know when something you're trying hits the right spot. Sometimes the reflex reaction is enough to tell, but honest communication is the only way to truely know what your significant other likes.

The alphabet is an old trick but it does work if you don't have any other resources to try out. It's all about variation that's why the alphabet works because you're moving your tongue and stimulating different areas. Maybe DoubleM can chime in on that subject he's posted some great responses to the different techniques you could use. Honestly though it's all about learning and experimenting with what feels good for her and you, ask her what she likes, listen to the sounds she makes and the way her body responds to your touch and take note on what gets her moving more or making more noise and keep doing those things. Use your fingers and your tongue, engage her entire body, just have fun and I'm sure she will too.

While u are doing it, don't forget other parts of her body, such as touching her thighs and stomach and other stuff, it makes her feel like u aren't just "going on automatic pilot".
Be gentle and look like u are enjoying it. Nothing worse than the guy looking awkward and not like he is happy and confident with what he is doing.
Btw...I don't where your friend heard that...but it's so wrong. Girls love u going inside with ur tongue
But the best advice I can give u...is experimenting...looking at how she reacts for whether u are doing good things or if it's not that great. Also talking to her...ask her what she might like...she has way better understanding of what feels good for her than u can ever guess. Don't be afraid to communicate
