How do I deal with roommate temperature problems?

Question - (8 November 2009) 4 Answers - (Newest, 29 April 2011)
A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

So I have a roommate who likes it cold and don't get me wrong I like it cool too, but she likes to keep it at 65 degrees Fahrenheit or below with 2 or 3 fans on in our dorm room and the window open even when it's snowing/blizzarding out. I've confronted her about this three times already and she turned off one of the fans once and just yelled at me the other two times, but then just relapsed back to her ways. What the heck am I supposed to do?

I know this is late, but I came across it looking for the same information. 65 degrees is cold for room temperature. My roommate is the same way. I've been sick all the time because of it- and sometimes blankets and footed pajamas just don't cut it. =/

Mine's fat and probably has a thyroid condition or something. 65 degrees isn't healthy. She's not being courteous. She's a jerk, sorry to say.

tux agony auntjust be thankful, she likes it cold, rather then hot at 100 degrees. you can always wear more clothes to keep warm, but you can only remove so much to keep cool. but besides talking to her or trying to get into a different room theres not much more than to close the windows when she opens them.

If you've already spoken to her with no success, I'd talk to your RA (you are in college, I assume?) about the problem. Good luck

texas_princess agony auntOH HELL NO! It's not YOUR place it is OUR place and certain rules need to be laid out and followed. If she's not adult enough to be courteous of you..... be indignant and unplug them every chance you get, turn the heat on full blast and if she whines... ask her if she has a medical condition that requires she sleep in sub-zero conditions. haha. NEVER compromise your own comfort for someone that would not extend the same courtesy to you. Grow a backbone and stand up for yourself! good luck!
