It is common. And guys look smaller than girls of same age during mid-teens (atleast where I live) They will catch up later. Like others pointed out it could be the metabolism which may be the reason why women live longer. Dont worry too much about your weight. Just take care that you dont attain unhealthy weight.

Wait till you see them when they hit 25! Guys have a very good metabolism because at your age they are developing lots of muscle mass which burns lots of calories.
Once we hit our mid 20s we have to work very hard to stay in shape especially as we spent our youth eating crap and staying thin, once our metabolism slows down and we discover beer, you won't be envious any more.
Girls have puppy fat up until their early 20's which soon disappears. I'm sure you have a great figure, don't stress about it!

In general women's bodies tend to hang on to more fat, especially around the tummy and hips because of childbirth! To get pregnant and have a healthy baby, and to be able to give birth naturally, a woman needs to have some amounts of fat around the hips and tummy - this will also stop so many stretch marks when pregnant!
So it is because of evolution that women tend to put on weight and men stay skinny. This is something you need to accept I'm afraid, you cannot fight it so go with it! Why do you want to look so skinny anyway? Having curves is womanly, there is no way I would want to look like a skinny boy!
And I agree with tux, men can normally eat what they want up to the age of 30, and then all of a sudden their metabolism slows down and they get "middle aged spread"! They will get big tummy's (or a beer gut!) and will realise that all their years of eating junk will catch up with them.
One thing not many people realise either is that you can be very skinny on the outside, yet internally, that skinny person can have more health problems than someone who is obese. Skinny does not equal healthy! If you are a lucky person who has a fast metabolism and stays skinny even if you eat junk, then actually you can still have heart disease because arteries are clogged up with fat, their liver can be damaged from alcohol and kidneys can still have problems due to excess salt etc. Dont try and be skinny for the sake of it - it does not do your health any good in the long run.
There may be a variety of reasons why you are not losing weight, and as you havent really stated what you are currently doing to try and lose weight there is no point in trying to help you with that.
Just stop trying to fight evolution, and be happy knowing that at 30, all your guy friends will be getting nice big beer guts!
I hope this helps!

Men are usually "skinnier" because their metabolisms run at a generally higher level than a woman's. It also runs longer at this faster rate than a woman's does.
This is all very generally speaking, of course.

Why do you want to be skinny? Are you talking skinny as in skin and bones (a.k.a. anorexic looking) or are you talking about a nice slim and toned body?
Would you rather be skin and bones and have all kinds of disorders or would you prefer toned and healthy? (which looks much more sexy actually, because that means more likely than not, you have good stamina!)
Check these sites out, and unless you are obese, you should feel good about yourself.

Every person has different genotype and phenotype structures. I was never considered "skinny" even though I was underweight (for my 4'11" height) because they said I was "big boned" LOL. And apparently my muscle mass is also not typical of that of a female but more of a boy's. Which I am thankful now because it means I still look "toned" even with minimal exercises. But I do have to watch what I eat because there indeed is a history of overweight (not obese) within my birth family. A skinny friend of mine, did Pilates for a year, and although she did not gain weight she looked amazingly toned (and yes, she ate a lot more than before! ... all the right foods she ate just formed into muscle mass in her body)
So, if you exercise regularly and watch what you eat, my guess is (a) you do not have more excess fats that needed to be shed, or (b) your exercise is not of the right regiment to lose excessive fats, or (c) you were thinking of calories intake as opposed to a balanced diet of natural proteins (animal and/or vegetable), sugars (carbs), essential fats (animals, vegetables/grains), roughage and pro-vitamins (vegetables, fruits, grains), calcium (dairy products, fish), etc etc.
Enjoy life being healthy - as supposed to just aiming at being skinny.

Wait until they hit around 30 when their metabolism slows down.. But my theory is that girls obsess about their weight so much that it screws up their metabolism and BAM!
But many people have different rates of which they burn off what they eat. I'm not a doctor nor have I looked up this reason, but I would guess that it has to do with the monthly cycles women get that men do not.

It has nothing to do with male vs female... it has everything to do with metabolism at the age/sex you are speaking of. Some people are blessed with high metabolism and others are not. Also, men tend to work themselves to death at the gym because we get this image that girls only like skinny boys.
TO EVERYONE HERE: Enjoy yourself for what you are, damnit! Don't work yourself to death at the gym because you think the other sex will like you more. Work hard at the gym because _you_ want to look better. However, never think the opposite sex will be turned off from you forever because you aren't 007 or Pamela Anderson... I'm not 007 and my gf isn't Pamela Anderson but we love each other to death!!
