my fiance and me are trying to find legal help. leagal aid has told us they will not help us. we are living on employment that is not possible to pay for an attorney. we are being sued for financial hardships by her ex husband because we had no choice but had to leave texas and move to pa to be and get help from family and friends. my fiance takes out loans to go to school to better herself. i am working a 7.50 an hour job right now and looking for more as is she. she uses this money to pay some of the bills and her child support. if we dont get a lawyer she will probably be put in jail but how can one pay for something and get help when everyone says they will not take our case and legal aid wont help you?

advicegem agony auntHi scrow113,

Could you give us some more information? You mention that your fiance is paying child support to her ex. I assume that means he has custody? Is she paying the full amount as ordered when they went through their divorce? If this is the case, then I don't think he could sue for anything. They are no longer in a relationship and therefore she is not financially responsible for him. Also, any judge will order child support based on what is possible; he has to leave her with what the government has deemed a basic standard of living.

As for legal advice, you can try asking someone here: http://www.freeadvice.com/ if it goes to court, you are entitled to free counsel by the state and will be provided that. But if you want preemptive advice, it is best to ask on the site provided, or some of the other legal forums out there.

I also did a little searching and found out that Pennsylvania is starting a new program for free legal advice... if you can hang on until July 7th, that is when the initiative starts. More information here: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09173/979150-100.stm?cmpid=news.xml

Good luck, and feel free to clarify anything if I haven't answered your question.
