How can I show him I am interested without appearing too eager?

A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

I met a guy last Friday at a bar.. we had mutual friends so we chatted - at one point he even implied i was too pretty to be at the club and asked if i was there with my boyfriend. When I said no we continued to chat and at the end of the night he asked for my number because he wanted to hang out just the two of us and he told me I would be hearing from him.

He added me to Facebook a few days later and I decided to message him to begin contact.. we chatted for a bit and he told me he had his appendix emergency removed over the weekend... so clearly he won't be able to hang out for the next little while.

I feel since I initiated the first contact I should wait for him to message me when he is ready to hang out but I really like him and am afraid if too much time passes it's over with. We havnt spoken since Monday evening- I want to give him space to recover but its hard to sit here waiting- how can I still show I am interested without being over eager?

what should my next move be?

In my rules if you sent the last message, he should reply and visa versa if he sent the last message.. me as a lad I don't want to. Chase too much for 2 reasons 1 being top eager and 2 I don't want to feel a Pratt.. not all lads like a chase

A female reader, Dorothy Dix Australia +, writes (5 July 2013):

Hi there. I completely agree with you here, that you give him space to get well again, and to think about you.

You would be very wise to wait for him to get back in contact with you.

No matter how long that is.

Even if it is another week or two - it is really important that you wait for him to call you.

Otherwise, by calling him, it can make you appear desperate.

And this, can make men withdraw from a woman altogether.

And that is what you DON'T want.

Because, he DID ask for your phone number after all, didn't he?

And he wouldn't have done that if he had no intention of getting back to you.

He has been in hospital, getting his appendix removed, and so he will be a little sore and sorry for at least a week or so, I suppose.

Just the same though, still leave it until he contacts you again - whenever that happens to be.

So let HIM chase you.

It is much better that way, and men LOVE a challenge.

And they like it when a woman isn't too easy to win his heart - by always being available.

Which then gives a man the thought that you are probably just sitting at home - by the phone - waiting for him to call.

And a man can always sense this in a woman's eagerness to please, and always saying "Yes" to going out with him - even at very short notice!

No matter how hard you try to pretend that this isn't so - that you AREN'T waiting by the phone - they can still hear it in your voice, regardless.

And so it is better that you continue to go out with your friends and socialize, and do your hobbies, and then when he calls, you have something to talk about.

And as well as that, you will be calm and relaxed and at peace with the world, which makes you great fun to be around.

I believe that if you were to even message him on Facebook now, you might NEVER hear from him again.

And that would be a big disappointment to you, I'm sure.

So DON'T go there, whatever you do.

Let HIM come to you.

He already knows you are interested, and that is all that matters really.
