writes: Hi I need help. I'm underweight according to BMI calculations (i'm 5'7'' and 102 lbs.) I'm skinny, but not to the point where you can see any bones, and I'm filled out in all the right places, so I don't get how I'm underweight. I have tried everything to gain weight, from not doing a single thing and eating junk food, to exercising and eating really good food. I actually lose weight when I'm lazy and I can only get to 115 lbs. when I exercise. I need to get to 120 lbs. to be a healthy weight and be able to get pregnant. Does anyone know how to gain weight in a healthy way? Please help. Thanks

Hmm... well, maybe your lacking something. Try eating several boiled eggs a day, protein shakes, 6 meals a day, excercise, and I'm sure you'll see results. You may also want to see a doctor, make sure that you don't have any thyroid problems, or are lacking any nutrients.Another thing is, it may take you 3-6 months to get up to 120 lbs. But that is a GOOD thing, because packing on weight rapidly is bad for your body, especially for your size. I know if you want to get pregnant very soon, you may not have the patience to wait. My advice, if you can't wait... then MAKE sure that you eat 6 meals a day, try to get all of your nutrients, stay in shape, and you should have a healthy pregnancy. =)

As you have sayd when you eat alot of junk food and laze about it doesnt make a affect on your weight, there could be a number of reasons to this. One is that your matabalism could just be very fast in digesting your food. You could also suffer from stress related issues such as a high demanding job or personal problems that has always got your mind working over time, if you are a coffee drinker the caffine in it could stop you from gaining weight and also the same go's if your a smoker. I dont see any reason why you wouldnt be able to conceive being the weight that you are and as long as you feel healthy inside then there really shouldnt be nothing to worry about. Its a releif to hear a story of someone who is actualy wanting to get healthier(fatter)and not some girl who want to be really skinnie even though her bones are already there to be seen. I say just be happy girl and dont let a issue of feeling as though you are to thin stand in the way of your life.

Then make sure you eat just a little bit more than that. And don't eat junk food and things like that, eat foods with lots of protein and vegtables/fruit. If you are really serious about putting on weight, it's always a good idea to see a doctor who can probably give you some good and safe advice.

All the best

Whoever told you that you have to put on another 18lbs in order to get pregnant? Sounds a bit strange to me unless you're a confirmed anorexic or bulimic and you're following medical advice in trying to do this, in which case I would have expected the doctor to get you an appointment with a nutritionist. Which might not be a bad idea anyway!

The best way to gain weight, or even to lose it, s to count your calories. Your normal intake is about 2000 calories to run all your bodies functions. Now from the sounds of it you have a high matabolism which is a good thing.
Now all you have to do is just eat more of the healthy things and excersize a lil less than usual so your not jus burning off the calories you intook and when you get to your goal weight maintain it by keeping the same calories and excersize. If you gain too much just excersize a bit more.

Perhaps your stressed, relax a little
