I just started my new job and I've been scared because I'm afraid of what people think of me. I always panic and stress because I'm afraid I wont make the food right and people might think Im slow and restarted because I take so long and sometimes i make the wrong food. I just started 2 days ago but I get nervous because I haven't fitted in yet. But I feel like I'll look crazy and they will talk about me if I try to fit in. I honestly don't feel like I should fit in until I get everything correct first then I can be comfortable. But I panic whenever I see a order especially if it's more than one. I get scared that the manger and my co workers or thinking he is slow and he doesn't know what he is doing. I tried learning the whole menu but it doesn't matter because when I panic I forget everything. I'm being trained but me being afraid and nervous in front on the others employees makes me forget everything. I don't even really talk because I feel slow and odd from everyone else because they all know each other well. Then i feel embarrasd about my voice because its weired, it just so much that goes through my head and keep me from focuing. Im ready to be myself but it takes me time to that most likely. I don't know when I'll loose this mindset because it may get me fired. People probably think im worried because i dont talk and dont know what im doing. I just laugh and talk when they talk to me only. Its like i shut down afterwards. I wanma break out and be myself. I can feel it. Lol. Because im a really fun, amd goofy guy.I believe I can do it but I be so nervous and afraid to do anything. Can someone give me helpful advice on what to do in my situation. Lol

If you are having problems, ask for help. If you don't hve a copy of the menu, get one and keep it at your station. If you are working in fast food, watch how the people who have been making food there for years assemble the sandwiches. Instead of letting your anxiety shut you down, get your body moving from the adrenaline and dance around while making the orders to calm yourself down.

You're only on your second day...worst thing that can happen at this point is you make an order wrong and have to re-make it.

Finally, i worked in fast food for almost a year. By the end of it, i was 2nd fastest making sandwiches, could work the grill, ordering system and registers. Some of the people hired were seriously so not bright that they couldn't even be trusted to fill proper drink orders and put the proper items in the bags to hand out the window. You are intelligent. Get to know your coworkers. If you are by yourself in the kitchen and don't know how to make something, ask a manager or a waitress who has been there awhile. Waitresses know what goes into a meal because they answer questions about it an provide details for altering the meal.

Finally, if you are the kind of guy who smokes marijuana regularly or before work, it would be in your best interest to quit. Smoking pot can cause panic attacks, and make it difficult for you to retain information.

person12345 agony auntNo one starts a new job already knowing how to do everything and already being friends with their coworkers. No one expects you to either, they now you're still learning. Try to relax, no one expects perfection right from the start. It's OK if you mess up sometimes, just own up to your mistakes and try again. You'll get comfortable eventually.

BondGirl72 agony auntI agree with everyone here...give yourself some time. Everyone feels that way when they start a new job. Have confidence in yourself that you're a good worker, take your time learning, and you will do just fine! You have to give yourself a little time to learn everything and get to know people...it can't just happen overnight.

Starlights agony auntSounds like your stressed out and if you continue your gonna have a heap of issues. What I do when im stressed is take a deep breathe, and remember to focus on what im doing RIGHT NOW and not focus on the next hour, but being in that moment.

That means im less likely to make mistakes, or ramble or mess up.

Hope that helps.

Anastasia agony auntMorning,

Everytime someone starts a new job, they experience fears and anxieties just like you do to fit in and be part of the team or even the group that go hang out from work every so often. Trying to do the job right and show they boss they picked the right person doesn't ease the pressure either.

My advice to you is this...your priority at this time is to do the job right and do it right the first time. From what you are saying, you're a Chef I'm guessing. Not sure the type of food you are making, but the mere fact that you got the job means that your employers saw something in you that they like and they obviously know that you are capable of doing the job. That's why they picked you. So from that alone...you know you can do this. So...just do it from your heart and give it all you've got.

The comradery and the goofyness will come as you get comfortable with doing the job. I just started a new job 3 months ago and I was scared out of my mind because it's at a high level and I had big shoes to fill. Everyone was so nice with each other and laughing and there I was thinking.."do I even know what I am doing!" But I just kept my head down for a bit and focused on the job I was hired to do. Evenutally, my friendliness came out once I was comfortable that I had things under wraps I was able to have a chit chat joke here and there.

The nerves will go away with time once you get used to doing what you do. Don't worry about what people think. Believe it or not, they know you are new...and you'll be surprised how forgiving they can be if you mess up. You just learn from it and do it better next time. So when next you go to work...take a deep breath, say to yourself ..self...it's going to be a great day and I am going to do my best today...then walk in, say Good Morning or whatever and lose yourself in what you obviously love to do.

Your true self will come out of hiding eventually to play...for now...just focus on the cooking.

Good Luck...and stop panicking so much...they already know they picked the best guy..wink wink.

well first of all you should know this feel good about this fact that you got this job because you deserved it.you have something great in you which is why you are where you are..you should stop worrying and start working.once you do great at your job, people shall start appreciating you an things will go on smoothly.dont worry or fret about anything because that will just increase your worries two folds and will be a big hindrance to your work.be good and help others as this might give you a chance to know them better and start a new friendship with them. just be yourself and let people accept you the way you are.. hope you have a great life ahead..all the best..:):)
