I agree with "maverick" that this is probably Cowper's fluid. It comes from two small glands located below the prostate gland. This is normal unless there has been a dramatic change in the amount over the years.
As you get older, you may begin also to release small amounts of semen (including sperm) prior to your main ejaculation due to some loss of muscle tone in this region of your body. Better control may be retained by employing "Kegel Exercises" which you can research online. The body ages, and these things gradually happen.
But I see no reason whatsoever to wear a condom while having sex with your wife, assuming you are both healthy, disease-free and faithful.

Maybe this isn't answering your question really, but I know that as a girl i like precum, as some physical evidence that a guy's having a good time besides being hard! But I would think that you could either wipe it off, or shorten engagement in foreplay so that it's not long enough for you to precum.

The liquid you're referring to is usually called the "pre-ejaculate" or "Cowper's fluid" (since it's made by the Cowper glands in your penis). This is perfectly normal and shows that your reproductive organs are stimulated and in working order. This has an extremely important function. When aroused, pre-ejaculate is released to nulify any acidity in your urethra from any urine and also acts as a lubricant between the the foreskin and glans (at the tip of the penis) for the comfort of the male. You do not want to stop this happeneing but if you are uncomfortable with it, you can always look to wipe away the excess. The amount produced varies between men.Just a note, studies have show there is not enough viable sperm in the pre-ejaculate fluid to likely cause pregnancy, however bacteria and dieases can still be transfered in pre-ejaculate. As usual wear a condom wear possible.Hope this helps.
