A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I am 16 and i am single. I have never had a boy friend and i am in love with my best friend... He is everything I could ever want in a boy but he does not fancy me. i have tried to get over him many times but it has not worked. I feel as if I am the only teen my age that has not had a boyfriend and it makes me feel ugly. I have very low self esteem. I also feel as if I am too tall for a lot of boys. I am 5"11, have horrible frizzy curly hair and i am not very slim. Please please help! What should I do?

A female reader, CindyCares Italy +, writes (9 January 2011):

CindyCares agony aunt I think you are just going though your ugly dickling phase and going to turn soon into a beautiful swan.

5'11 ...and complaining ? honey, that's a model's height- there are tons of short girls who would love to be in your shoes !

Hair ? A luscious mane of curls is the sexiest thing ever.

Ok, we could do without the frizz- luckily hair problems are generally easy to fix, there is nearly nothing that a good hairstylist can't do for you , or teach you to do. Go to a good salon once, ( if you can't afford to go regularly ) ,let them work their magic, then keep up using the right products.

Weight ? Like another poster says, beauty comes in all sizes. It's about self confidence. But, if shedding a few pounds may help you make you feel better into your skin, I don't see anything wrong with that. The shape of your body is something you have a measure of control over ( within reasonable limits, mind that ).

As for the boy who does not fancy you- hey, rejection is part of life, sooner or later we all have to deal with it, and often more than once. Don't ever take it as a sign that you are not pretty enough or good enough or sexy enough or something else enough. It does not mean that. It means simply that different people have different tastes and preferences and they look for a type of person- that sometimes it's different from the type of person you are, that's all.

How to get over him ? I think time it's on your side, and at your age you still have eons to meet a ton of different other guys . Be social, be friendly, be patient- don't fret over your single status . It will happen for you too, probably when you least expect it.

In the meantime... fall in love with yourself. The most important person in your life that should like you and think you are the best - it's you:)

A female reader, anonymous, writes (9 January 2011):

I'm now 32, but I'm also a 5ft11 female who grew up with curves, a frizzy mop and felt awkward at your age, too. While it's hard, try not to let it get to you. Eventually the guys will catch up to your height and, trust me, a good majority of men find the tall girls sexy.

Watch your posture and make sure to stand tall. Confidence is key, especially for us amazons. Even someone who isn't all that unattractive (too short, too tall, too heavy) can light up a room if they have self-confidence and you'd be surprised by how such energy can draw a good number of people your way. If you're not happy with your hair, ask the hairdresser for tips the next time you go in or research methods. Get yourself a good flat iron that fights frizz/humidity if need be (GHD!).

As far as your friend goes, it could come down to a number of things. Perhaps he doesn't want to ruin the friendship, as relationships are prone to do (keep that in mind also), or perhaps he's just not ready and realizes that it will mess things up.

Your self-esteem could also be against you as sometimes it appears as if you're disinterested, especially if the other person is shy about the subject as well. Guys your age are also prone to not taking action with the girls they like most, too, so keep that in mind also.

I would suggest working on your inner confidence first. You'll not only feel better about yourself, but you're likely to get the attention you're hoping for, be able to notice it when you're getting it and will have the nerve to do something about it. If you don't feel comfortable about something with yourself, either set about changing it if it's realistic, or learn to accept the wonderful qualities that you have. In the end, the right guy's going to like you for you.

A female reader, xLovetodayx United States +, writes (9 January 2011):

xLovetodayx agony auntI'm not sure what to tell you about your friend, I know how much it sucks when you love someone and they don't feel the same way. All I can say is to keep putting yourself out there and keep being his friend. Just remember you're lucky to have him in your life at all and who knows, maybe he'll come around. Also, don't worry about not having had a boyfriend, I didn't have my firt kiss until I was sixteen; I'm now seventeen and haven't had a steady "boyfriend" yet. It doesn't mean you're ugly at all, but if you're not feeling confident about your appearance, maybe try getting a straight perm, or looking up tutorials on ways to fix your hair or do your make up differently, there's a bunch of really helpful ones on youtube and such. Don't be ashamed of your weight, either; beauty comes in all sizes! :)
